Well it arrives tomorrow, the week's wait has been a killer. I just know I will have an insane grin on my face when I first drive it. Can you remember that first drive feeling? :D

Thanks kipperonabike, that's good to know having been without a grin-inducing car for a few months! There's something about being lucky enough to have a car you look forward to driving, and the fact that you suddenly find you are making a lot more non-essential trips to the shops etc!

I picked mine up 250 miles from home on a sunny summers afternoon, sorted insurance and put the roof down for the drive home.

The smile on my 23 year old face was huge, and still when I drive it on a day like today it gives me massive smiles.

I'm off to put the hardtop in the garage and hit one of the UK's best driving roads, minehead to Tiverton.

enjoy it

Alan is oh so right. You get all caught up and forget to see that chip in the bonnet, kerbed wheel, roof not opening properly, etc. etc. Sort that out then enjoy it.

My first drive - nervous actually as the bonnet is so long, so powerful and different in every way to all the hatches, saloons and big 4x4's I was used to as daily drivers.

I drove my new car back home from dealer, which was 60 miles away. When I got home, I found the first stone chip on the front bumper. I was only doing 55 mph on M25 because the car needed running in for the first 1,500 miles.

The car is now just over 9-month-old with 7,200 miles on the clock, but it is still like brand new inside. :D

My first drive was in early 2004, before i had passed my driving test, My dad had brought home his brand new silver 2.2i dealer demo. I nicked the keys and had a blast up and down our cul-de-sac (to my dads horror when i saw me). From that day forward i knew i had to own one of these.

Fast forward over 4 years to the last day of 2008 i took the train to a performance specialist in Burnley. The dealer is right next to the motorway, he handed me the keys and said "off you go" for a test drive on my own. 500 yards onto the sliproad, merging with traffing i felt like the Don! Had a blast down a windy lane off the next junction which the dealer had explained to me, not before stopping to put the roof down of course. It felt like a hotrod, the feeling of being sat so far back is quite unusual at first, obviously we think nothing of it now. It was fun though, why do cars always feel faster when you first drive them? Back onto the motorway, a quick squirt of throttle upto a silly speed and back to the dealer to tell him i'm having it. Even though i knew i was having it before i even drove it, such is the beauty of the thing. :D

Sadly my first drive as the owner wasn't so much fun. Accross a busy M62 at night in the rain.

Still remember my test-drive - red-lined it in 2nd gear and knew I had to have it.

Never regretted it for a second  :D

My daily drive for 2 years prior to buying the Z was a Smart Fourtwo. :D
The long bonnet of the Z gave me most problems when reversing onto my shared drive. 9 months on and it's easy peasy.
I'll never forget the drive home from collecting. Beautiful summers day, roof down, heaven.

I remember the grin on the better half's face when she came back from her test drive and I could see why when i did mine.

My first reactions were
I hope i don't stall it (I stall every car on my first drive. standing joke in our house.)
I hope i don't hit anything going out the car park.
Hit the accelerator and thought......I want one........ :D :D :D :D
This was followed by a number of weeks of cautious driving until the other half got to close to a kerb (hehe)......then.....weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee........
