For using your fog lights on a night with no fog?-Hi all its been misty around here the last couple of early morns/late nights so ive been using my fogs and the condensation has all but gone :) -so i was thinking of using them as a set routine for example every couple of nights, but im wondering if you can be pulled over for doing this?

The fogs on the facelift dont look like fogs.. and are less bright then most DRL's on newer cars.... heck even the halo's on the new BMW's are brighter then the fogs

have you ever followed a car in the dark on a clear night with fogs on? Very bright.

as for fronts... remember they are NOT directional so end up dazzling on-coming traffic....

Highway code:

You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 236).

You can now buy angel eye fogs for prefacelift models - not sure on quality though

Police can fine you £30 (probably more now) for using fog lights in good visibility.

Been there. Done that :(

Only on rear these days, the law for fronts changed with DRL legislation a couple of years ago.

I believe the fine for improper use of lights can incur a maximum fine of £2,000.00, cannot recall where and when I heard it, but it stuck in my mind none the less

Probably right Sars. It's a shame when it's an honest mistake....

I'm very careful now

Not sure you're right there - on some newer cars the front fogs double up as DRLs, but running at a much lower intensity. You can still be fined for using front fogs in clear conditions.

Andy - mine are full of condensation too, as well as corroded. You'll find they are like hen's teeth second hand. No idea what the new replacement cost from a dealer is, but it won't be cheap... I am just going to run mine until they fail or a second hand set appear - not aesthetically pleasing, but IMO not worth replacing right now.

...and I got pulled in the city of London a good few years back and was asked to switch mine off, by a bored city copper. Didn't get a fine though.

what are DRL's?

on my golf the fog light comes on when i turn the steering wheel, it bugs me

Driving in adverse weather conditions (226-237)
You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 236)

Driving in adverse weather conditions (226-237)
You MUST NOT use front or rear fog lights unless visibility is seriously reduced (see Rule 226) as they dazzle other road users and can obscure your brake lights. You MUST switch them off when visibility improves.
