Can I Swap Aero Rear Apron for OEM Carbon Diffuser?

I have the aero rear 'apron' - part no 51120150782 and would like to fit the carbon OEM diffuser - part no 51710410384.

Does anyone know if these parts are a common fitment and if it would be a simple swap or if having the 'apron' on my Zed will prevent fitting of the diffuser for any reason?

I'm not sure on the part numbers, but the OEM carbon diffuser (as I fitted) is designed for the post facelift only and won't fit the prefacelift that you have.

Then again I just ignore such issues and do it anyway, regardless of effort

The cf diffuser follows the crease line on the post facelift and I just doubt the 2 are compatible.

Is this the diffuser you mean?

This pic from the BMW site shows how it fits on the facelift model...

...the rest of the aero kit is the same as yours, BMW just supply the diffuser appropriate to the year. It's a bugger as I'd have loved the carbon one.

Have seen CJ's first hand, great job, but I think a little above my level at the moment

Are the contours of the pre and post faclift bumper towards the bottom that different? Looking at the bumper it seems as though the faclift has a bigger lip.. which you could prob just fill in on the sides on pre faclift to get it to fit.

As a birthday present to myself I bought one last week... however looking at the instructions it requires the stock bumper to be cut - which has put me off a little

The countours on the lower lip are very different. I would say at the widest the gapp wold be 1" I overcame it by cutting some cf off the lower edge that I needed to do anyway for the quads then grafted shaped pieces with the grain in the same diection into the gaps. Neat enough but not prfect,

Next challenge is it fits along a crease line on the facelift which is not ont he pre so yo need a lot of measuring to work out where to fit the paper template and cut. Finally since there is no crease line to follwo you have to seale the tope edge to the bumper.

It does require a bit of skilll but withing scope if you take time and are careful. Mine was way more complicated as I had to fab and cast my 2nd exhaust outlet, but that's another story.

Nice present Measure and mark up and check a few times. One thing I would suggest, try a couple practice cuts on bits you know are going in the bin - just to see how accurate / wide the cut is. The bumper plastic is actually quite easy to work with. I cut my bumper (different job) with the little Dremel type tool, slow but accurate. I know Breaker fitted on to his E86, may be able to help... assuming he didn't just give it to the dealer.

I should add that they supply a thin paper template that sticks on the bumper. Once aligned it's real easy to follow along and drill the bolt holes.

Needs cutting with a jugsaw due to the complex pattern aroound bolt holes. You have roughly 1/4" to 1/2" tolerence all the way so easy to cut.

I must repeat though on the facelift you just stick this template along the crease line. on pre you have to calculate where to place it - no easy task

Yep i have a thin paper template and it looks pretty simple to do... however i may still get a spare bumper so i can return it to stock when i sell it.. although (and i'll prob get some slack for this).. i now quite fancy a M rear bumper with a quad setup after seeing CJ's sexy rear again!

Dave, I don't think it will be anything like the CF cut out, you would need to get the template or a CF diffuser to find out.
