Phoned up my dealer today to order retrofit kit for mfsw....

they said that my car is a couple of months too old to retrofit it too.....

is this the case? Any easy way to check?

If so is there anyway around this?

Kind Regards
Sam

Mine is 12/02 and I did it w/o a problem.
How much are you going to pay for it? Try finding a used MFSW on ebay. They are listed quite frequently and it costs a fraction of the price. I bought mine for $75 :)

I have been looking on ebay for a while but couldnt find one in the UK and from america postage pushes the price up. Got the relevant parts from dealer for £105....

The dealer is wrong. It can be fitted to any age of car. The only difference is that pre/post 09/03 there is a variation to the wiring/install

Details for both are in the factory supplied pdf that I can email to anyone who needs a copy

Can you email me a copy please ([email protected])? I should put together a DIY :) I'll give you credit for it :D

When I went back to the dealer after finding out they were wrong to order the retrofit kit, I suggested that they look at their own instructions....

The guy went off and came back a few mins later very sheepish!!!

Been checking on Ebay for this kit, but all are new and none of them are under $100 :headbang: Guess i gotta keep looking, as i miss having buttons on my steering wheel to adjust volume and skip tracks.

Thinking about fitting this...
What buttons are there?
Volume, skip tracks, are there any speedcontrols too?
Can you get it in all black? (other than M-verson that dont fit my wheel)

Thoose who got it, are you happy with it?

Yes - I retrofitted along with the paddle shifts. I love it.

From memory you can raise and lower volume, change stations. On CD change cd's and tracks. On phone answer, dial, call volume, last redial, initiate voice command etc. and switch between phone and radio manually. Sat Nav - activate various functions.

Cruise control is not on the Zed's wheel but a separate lever unlike many BMW's

Allright, so the right hand set of buttons are pretty useless unless youve got a connected bluethooth phone/built in phone?

I wouldn't say useless... there are only two buttons on the wheel that are phone related - the other 4 are context sensitive...

Yes - I'd agree with that.

Of course with some inginuity there is no reason some of the buttons cannot have their function changed. I've seem X5's use the volume to control auto box shifting as an example.

My car is a 10/02 build, and I did the MFSW kit. I bought the kit from Tischer Automotive and it works like a champ... no coding necessary...
