Can I put a hole in here ? SORTED !

Hi everyone,

Just having a few problems with water getting into the drivers side foot well (not all the time just occasionally)
problem seems to be that water is building up on the door seal and then running inside the car (Pic 1)

So just wondering if I can put another drain hole in the rubber seal as marked (Pic 2).... will is solve the problem ?

I believe that it's only likely to appear on top of the door seal if it's getting past the door membrane - have you checked your membrane?

I have the same issue on the passenger side. I've repaired the damaged membrane but there's still water collecting on top of the seal.

Haven't got a clue how to do that ?

(lets get something clear I don't even know which end of a screw driver to hold ? sadly I am useless with any oily bits ! just fuel and drive I'm afraid)

is it something the garage can do cheaply ?

Any more trips to the garage and I think I will be on their Xmas lunch invitations and Mrs Badgers reasons for divorce list

I'm equally poor, but having watched this video (removing door card, but not replacing speakers) and bought the very cheap pry tools on Amazon, I took the card off, repaired the membrane with duct tape (hidden) and put it all back together.

The leak has now gone and I'm feeling brave enough to replace the whole membrane when the duct tape glue breaks down.

You could try lifting rubber seal up before taking door off just to see if it cure it

As BrianD has just mentioned tweak the door seal. I also tweak the rubber strip underneath the door that when shut meets the door seal.
Always seems to do the trick for me, not that I have to do very often.

Brill sorry to sound so stupid but how do I do that ?

The rubber seal with the holes in just lifts up. It is not secured in any way. Trial and error as to how far it needs to be raised though.

I cut a hole in both sides, seemed to help. I also repaired the door membranes when I upgraded the door speakers.
My carpets are dry now.

There must be a correct fix for this? as they don't leak when they leave the factory

plus my 53 plate does not leak? so what has changed with the cars that leak ??

My previous 07 plate 3.0Si leaked. Door membranes were checked by dealer at the time and were fine. Lifting the seal slightly sorted it for good, not before I had wasted hours trying different things. Even dealer couldn't fine what the root cause was despite even replacing the rubber seals with new ones, still no joy. Sometimes the simplist of things can sort a problem :wink:

I wouldn't put a hole in just yet, try lifting it first before you distroy it

It should fix it, so a hole should not be required

Just reporting back - pulled the rubber seal up by about 1/4 inch and used the gummi stuff to replenish

Seems to have solved the problem ! However now water is pissing in from where the roof drivers side meets the windscreen pilar - there is a tiny rubber gutter that flows rain water away from the seal NOT ON MINE !!!!!! An absolute pain in the arse I am beginning to lose faith with my Z. Water was dripping on my arm whilst driving home tonight !!!!!! Am I just really unlucky ?

It's turning into a nightmare not the fun I had expected :thumbsdown:

Cleaned plastic roof gutter over door windows with a toothbrush - water runs away correctly now
