Hi All,

I've recently picked up a 2004 3.0I Z4 (E85). It's developed an odd thing where occasionally, on start up, it will hunt a bit and I can hear (and feel through the seat) a thumping noise. It soon settles down, drives fine, no lights on the dash etc.... Is this normal?

Hmmm, do you think the thumping noise is the problem, or is it likely that the engine hunting means it's moving a bit and causing something like the exhaust to knock underneath?
 
Check the air intake hoses they are known for splitting especially the one to the throttle body / sound generator 1

I see what you're saying, it's a possibility I suppose, but it sounds more like a muffled thumping rather than something knocking if that makes sense?
