Can I also install a BMW X3 radio ?

I would like to upgrade my current Z4, 2004 business navigation headunit with a more recent one that plays mp3.
Today I asked a BMW technician if it would be possible to buy a X3 radio, and replace it with my current one. The front of the original Z4 headunit is reused.
Does anyone have succesfully done this?
