'Can holder' a fake?

Hello to the board!
I have just bought a 03 Z4 2.5 this week and am busy learning about my new motor and loving it so far.

Now, a slightly odd request as my first post here--- my manual says I should have a 'can holder' beneath the air vents on both sides of the car. There's no ' * ' to show it was optional so I guess they must be there?
Does every Z4 have them? Perhaps they are just both stuck?
I've tried pushing in the plastic dash but I don't want to cause any damage.

No doubt I'll have much more meaty questions as time goes on!

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, some pics and an intro in the newbies section please

Cup holders were optional, sounds like you dont have them. They can be retrofitted for around £90 (for the parts)

It' s an option, you can buy left and right hand ones from any main dealer for about £80.00 pair, make sure you get the aftermarket version that has the front face plate rather than the replacement (IE if you have broken one) which assumes you have the faceplate already.

Welcome... err the plastic bit you are trying to push.. if it has the picture of a cup on it then its is a cup holder and stuck.. otherwise it just a blanking plate

Welcome. Cupholders seem a tat expensive in the UK. Can be found far cheaper in continental Europe, for example here for EUR 70,- (being roughly GBP 54,-): http://www.bmwproducts.nl/Webwinkel-Product-3474211/Bekerhouders-Z4.html Ordered them there before, just brand new OEM parts.

I have them in mine, personally I wouldnt bother spending the money on them as I hardly use mine, they are made to hold HUGE cups!!!! A can for example would not fit safely in the cup holder!

You do realise that the "arm" of the cupholder is on a ratchet and you can adjust it to fit whatever size of cup (or can) you have in there?

That's not true when used properly: you can adjust the size of the ring holding your cup /bottle etc. by simply squeezing it. It will hold anything from a bottle of Winehouse (passenger's side :P ) to a can of red bull.... :driving:

Not seen these, only the ones with the separate face plate. Where can I order some from?

Cheers

THey are just different BMW part numbers, one part number assumes you already have the face plate and that you are replacing a broken cup holder, the second part number includes the face plates, in either case the face plates are a separate fitment. :D
