Can all Idrive E89's play music over Bluetooth, or post 2011 cars only?

Does anyone know how to get music from an iPhone or iTunes onto a flash drive?
Upload the iphone music to a PC and then load on a flashdrive. This should be pretty straight forward. Easier if you have itunes on the PC you can make playlists and then send them to a flash drive. In my case I wanted all my songs so I just selected a bunch of songs ( 10 or 12 at a wack) and dragged them to the flash drive and repeat until they were all copied over.

Don't see why you could not play a flash drive from the glove box. I think the glove box port is the primary port so it is easily selected as AUX import... But as mentioned quality is slightly reduced once loaded to the radio HD.
My new used car had a bunch of great music on the drive already
Nope, as far as I'm aware, you can only load music to the hard drive with the USB port in the glove box, the Z4 doesn't recognise that input as an Aux port. Happy to discover otherwise as it would be handy for me, but I'm sure I've tried it without success.

Correct

Thanks for setting me straight on that. I was confused because the idrive kept prompting me to connect an AUX source to the front usb? Ultimately I put the flash drive in the console and the car recognized it only after a restart, a bit confusing but it is working just fine for me now.
I was hoping it would work in the front so I could use the rear for a telephone Bluetooth device for spotify etc. I suppose I could use a splitter in the console and connect the flash drive and the Bluetooth adapter, and maybe select between the 2 in the menus?
Question for anyone who has used the BT device for an iphone X or S10, does this connection allow for just music input or will other apps like NAV (google maps) work ?
Thanks in advance :)

Thanks for the tip  Only got one very slow and very basic windows laptop (this is an Apple household in the main), so not sure if it will be able to handle it but I will give it a go. Cheers!

Copy from iTunes the tracks you want and drag them to the USB stick - Give the cars system time to read the stick when it's plugged into to armrest port.
Thats the method I used - 4k tracks on a 32Gb mini stick

Can you do that with a Mac? Tried to connect to my windows laptop but it's useless (the laptop is too slow and not enough storage capacity) I connected the phone to it but can't even see how to access the phone in the laptop. If it's possible to do it off my macbook it's will be much easier for me.

The method I used on my Mac - was select the tracks on iTunes > Copy then drag and drop onto usb stick!
