Cams, throttle bodies.....

Just seen the CA website, they are now offering cams and larger throttle bodies as tuning upgrades and was wondering if anybody has gone down this route ( I think its a shame to turbo or supercharge what is a wonderfully high revving engine).

I believe some have had issues with CA , items meant to be in stock then been delivered direct from USA leaving the end customer to pay import duty, that said some stuff on web site does look good , if your local to them an can stipulate picking up from them could be worth using, although I'm sure some will have used them with no trouble at all,

supercharging with a centri doesnt loose one bit of rev range, just moves the power up the graph. watch this review and you'll get the idea, how he describes it is perfect.... This car also has a centrifugal setup like mine. The more we rev, the more power we make, i think alot of people think all turbos and s/c's deliver power in the same way and they really couldn't be more wrong.

Pretty sure they've been selling those for a while, certainly many others have. I had my engine rebuilt with schrick 288/280 cams to go with the CSL airbox, I stopped at enlarged ITBs as the costs were getting slightly out of hand. Not sure if anyone has done the ITBs (many have done cams though) on here but search m3 forums for advice.
If you really go all out I believe 400hp is possible NA out of these engines, but you'll have a difficult engine to live with if you choose that. I think you need even higher lift cams than mine, which requires deletion of the vanos, in turn making it very torque light lower down.
Personally I wouldn't buy from CA as I'd rather be buying them through the garage that's installing them (CA is just a retail shop (shed in the back garden!)), but then that's just me. Since you are in swansea I would recommend trying Simpson motorsport in Lydney who have been doing these kinds of engine rebuilds on S54s since they were introduced.

Maybe he means the noise. A supercharger makes a different noise than NA intake noise.

Yep mine makes an ace noise, but then beedubs makes a heck of a lot more power. For me I'd say i'm fairly satisfied with 370hp, feels pretty good in a car like this, and the noise just makes it 'feel' faster (on the road at least)! I'd love to try a supercharged one, no doubt the performance is moved up a notch or two, in fairness I wouldn't mind a bit more torque :P
Supercharger's a fair bit more money again though, what are they 7kish for the kit? 1 days labour to install... tune?

your looking at around 8k for the top intercooled kit with the add-ons then add install costs, then add import duty etc etc. Today id guess you wouldnt see much change from 10.5k. Just got back 30 mins ago from a mid day blast, oh man i love it! lol. The current exchange rate has made this not viable now unless you REALLY love the car.
