Camera between seats

Anybody had any success mounting a camera or similar between the seats? I've been playing with a time-lapse app on my phone, and similarly time-lapse trigger for my SLR. I want to try one in the car, but having an SLR stuck to the windscreen IMHO obscures far too much of your visibility. When driving I like to see as much as possible (don't get me started on furry dice, and stupidly big stickers on rear windows etc).
I guess in a roadster you can clamp something to the roll-over bars, but that option's not there in the coupe. Any sucking type mount I've tried on that central cubby hole won't stick, even with the relatively little weight of a phone. Any ideas out there? Solution needs to be fully reversable with no long term damage! If I was happy to screw or glue something to the plastic, I'd not be asking this question.

ditto, I was going to look into having something made to fit into the wind deflector slot on the roadster, so you could put it in for trackdays & remove it normally. Would be nice & high up, far enough back to get a good view down with lots of bonnet.

If you're talking about an iphone or lightweight camera and have got a sucker mount, what about a Nav Mat II on top of the the rear bulkhead between the seats. Don't know if it would take the weight of an SLR though.

I did have some sticky-backed velcro that I stuck near the top surface of the unit between the seats and had a micro DV camera mounted to it. That camera weighs almost nothing though so it worked well but doubt it's support a bigger camera. I removed it though as I was worried about the sticky part leaving a mark in the long-term.

So basically I'm still looking for a better way to mount a camera (or perhaps my phone for some better quality video) in the car too...

you could maybe try one of these around the passenger headrest

Maplin bulldog clip. Needs a little electric tape behind the camera and under the clip to protect the plastic.

Pretty sure it was the setup for filming this...

I now just tape to the dash / window as shown here...

I have electrical tape in the car anyway so the above works fine. I know ga41 has his setup similarly.

I bought a go-pro kit a while ago....

AMAZING camera and mount.

I've used it for a couple of runs through the countryside.

oh!

forgot to mention....the mount is pretty impressive.

I was a bit sceptical mounting the suction mount on the bonnet and it holding......no longer a worry for me. :D

I just picked one of those up. I'm doing the Hindhead tunnel on Sunday early AM with 30 others plus Bedford track Monday. Will be interesting to see how good the footage is

just make sure that you if you mount the camera upside down, be sure to change the setting to inverse the video/photo capture....

its a biatch flipping the footage.

In the interest of cheapness for a first attempt, that bulldog clip or the electrical tape looks worth a try!
I've got a gorilla pod, but I didn't find a way of making it stay put.

A large rare earth magnet, with some velvet wrapping will mount anywhere - just don't dent the car. Sure you can find an ingenious way to mount the camera on the magnet. Used a similar contraption on a rocket once - worked like a dream.

I hardly dare ask..........a rocket? :o

Spectacular. Built a solid fuel rocket out of a Soda Stream canister for fun - the camera floated safely down with a small parachute. One needs to record the crazy stuff... Like running around the track in a Z. :D

I've used one of these in conjuction with a Lumix TZ7, not mounted between the seats but mounted on the piano black dash which gave good results.imo

Hope it is of some help

I wonder if my mount will stick to the aluminum dash panels....

The bulldog clip has me thinking though - I've got a box of meccano in the loft that's not been touched in years. Why am I on here posting???!

Try mounting the GoPro in front of the grill using one of the standard sticky mounts. At around a foot above the road, the effect is stunning. Oh, and attach a wire or string from the camera to the grill, just in case.

Ello All,

This is where I mount my GoPro Hero HD.
