Calum's Z4 35i - new Chinese rear lights...!

And here is a demonstration of the much-envied ability to indicate left.

Photographing LEDs is a total ball ache but you probably get the picture.

Well, I think it is an improvement as on the E89, the standard rear I don't particularly like.

Great write up…good that you’ve highlighted the potential for water ingress..

Will be interesting to see how they cope with ‘moist’ conditions ..as yiu say if the lights themselves are water resistant but let water into the boot?

Tested out the lights tonight! Can report the reverse lights are about 3-4x better than the stock ones, especially on account of having two rather than one. But my stock lights are tinted too so I suppose I’m used to even worse than stock!

……i think I like the cheesy start up animation.

While we are talking about Chinese rear lights... I was looking at some pictures yesterday of the new MG Cyberster (on sale in the UK later this year), apart from having scissor doors its got rear lights that have giant directional arrows! https://youtu.be/l2QUgw5m0fc?si=UzS2rkJ9aZ7kUu1f

Talked with the seller about the fitment / water ingress concerns.

...............Guess what. 'We recommend a professional installer'.

I've bought some generic water seals to trial with the lights as a sort of compression fit. I will also need to bung the 3rd screwhole (does anyone know the size off hand? I will measure anyway). I suspect the aftermarket seals will work, and I like the hand-made approach personally--but I will be hawkish on boot leaks (although the standard/stock system also leaks, so...)

In meantime, stock lights being posted to Clive this weekend for repairs.

I put some 3m duct tape over the 3rd hole when I replaced mine..I suspect more waterproof than putting a bolt in there as the hole is oversized..

These look fantastic. I'd 100% get these if I had an E89

They look really good. I've been eyeing these for a while and can't decide if the smoked versions or the standard versions would be the ones to go for on an Alpine White E89. Not sure I'm a big fan of the smoked lens look generally, but these look nice.

‘Nike Lights’
(Love the unlock sweep. Very Cylon-from-Battlestar-Galactica)

Going to keep an eye on this to see if the water ingress becomes an issue or not. Would look good on my 35i.

They do look pretty sick, any chance of a video review?

Do they flash blue or anything, I’m sure I have seen some which do this and it puts me off. :-(
