Hello! Mike and I are hoping to come along on the 20th August in our Z3. We remembered our last trip to Wales with the SE Contingent being a lot of fun back in our Z4 days :driving:
Any plans this year for a convoy up North? I see a fair few of you on the list as going. Also is anyone staying in a B&B nearby, if so where are the majority? So shall we start a list :) ? Any volunteers to make a more imaginative route than Mike's plan of going up the M40?

1. Ruby & Mike

Hi Ruby, yes we are all meeting up on Saturday for a convoy :driving:
Some of us will meet initially at Dartford and then pick up with StuartT and I think another forum member at Springfields McDonalds, near Chelmsford if that's any good. Mikey has a route planned avoiding motorways. We are all staying at the Link hotel, Loughborough. You guys are more than welcome to come along, be great to see you.
Steve and Bing are driving up Sunday Morning.

To Steve and Bing and anyone else going from the South East on Sunday.

Which way do you plan to go? Would like to meet up somewhere en route. Last year met at Toddington services.

Thanks Stu for the update! We shall have a think and see what suits us best. Good to know whats happening though.

Still deciding whether to stay over on Saturday or head up Sunday morning.

Regarding the route, I took the A43 when I went that way last month and really enjoyed the route, which goes past Silverstone, before joining the M1. The downside is the M1 had miles of roadworks and a long average speed zone, so that section wasn't very enjoyable.

I always turn off the A43 at the Towcester roundabout and head up the A5 rejoining the M1 at jct 20 instead of 15a. The A5 runs parallel with the M1 but can be quick if you get a clearish run.

Oh, thanks for the tip - that sounds far better than being stuck in roadworks.

Roadworks still there, from just past the A43 up to the M1/M6 split. 50mph average speed cameras all the way (with mad bastard truck drivers doing 54mph and sitting on everyone's bumper) so you should definitely use another route!

Follow the A5 for 22miles from the A43. You will come to a roundabout with a Texaco garage on it, take the 3rd exit onto the A426 and follow that until the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit again and then you're up to the M1.
