Hi all, without sounding stupid(again)-can i ask what your exhaust sounds like at the tailpipe end,i dont often walk round the back of my zed with the engine running but i did tonight, and it sounded a bit 'chuffy''?-thanks
Hijacking your thread slightly... any of you 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.5i who have 286mm vented in the front want to upgrade to 300mm front discs ... I've upgraded to 325mm front discs, so have my old calipers & carries in the garage with Mintex vented front discs that were fitted new last August.
Calipers need to be stripped as one was starting to bind, plus one new piston seal - yours for a bargain of £80 plus postage

I have a 2.0 2008 it does seem to sound a bit 'off' when starting from cold and when up to temperature it sounds and revs fine. I think most 2.0 sound is a bit different.
I think what you are describing sounds like normal, I have had an earlier 2.0 which did the same. Keep an eye on revs and oil temperature, do you check oil levels regularly?
There has been threads on this before - be reassured that the 2.0 is accepted as 'seeming' to run a bit rough at tickover - some forum members have even said they feel the engine running rough when sat in the cockpit so what you're describing seems normal - my 2.0 Sport is the same - but I think its got a great exhaust noise for a four - especially when booting the throttle on acceleration and when double declutching (just to hear it) on change down from third to second. The engine should be smooth and turbine like through the rest of the revs though - be careful - it is easy to over-rev in the lower gears it's that smooth.
Out of interest, some forum members have reported a slight irregularity on tick over when stationary in neutral at 850-900 rpm with the needle on the rev counter jumping very slightly. I think this is normal for the 2.0i model.
Cheers guys-took it to to an indy to look at-they said its fine, been told in the past that its also normal for the slight movemennt of the needle on tickover.
GaryH - Yes, found the same on my 2.0 as well - when pulling off from cold it seems a little jerky...hesitant seems a better word though !....push the accelerator down and it takes a while to pick up, but once warm, then no problems..
Might be pure coincidence, but my 2.0 idle was all over the shop when I first got it, even stalling on me a couple of times sitting at lights etc.
When the emission light came on and I cleared it with the reader I bought, the engine also seemed to run better afterwards.
Now the light was only on for a couple of days but since then the engine is a smooth as silk even from cold.
