Caliper Painting

Folks,

I give up - I want nice red callipers. Looking through the threads I see that many of you have used the Halfords stuff - which is fine by me unless there is a better option. I see that it will need several coats and loads of drying time - in total how long will I need to complete the job. Only reason I ask is that Ill have to take the car elsewhere to do it since I don't have any hard standing at my place (gravel drive). As much as I love my parents I don't fancy being trapped there for several days waiting for paint to dry! ha-ha.

Thx in advance

Mark

rake the gravel flat buy a big sheet of plywood to spread the load of the car across the gravel and put the jack on that, thus allowing you all the creature comforts of home

Some use aerosol for speed, but the Halfords is a good product and specific for calipers.

Mine is unmarked after 3 years on an X5

It's very fast drying and if you co-ordinate yourself and paint one caliper, then by the time you have cleaned and prepped the second the first is ready for a second coat.

Move around the car doing prep and a coat at a time and then end wait will be 30 minutes for the last one to dry before rebuild, if your careful.

You can have the whole thing done in a morning for a decent job of removing calipers, and pads, less if you paint in situ.

The Halfords caliper paint is good stuff. It took me around 4 hours altogether to do mine, including taking wheels off, putting back on, cleaning etc.

I did them on a Sunday late morning with the calipers still on the car, and didn't use the car until Monday morning. But they dried very quickly and you can drive sooner than that.

Just gives it that extra something, and they hardly get dirty now whereas they used to pick up every speck of muck. Oh and the results are still good months later :)

I've had great result with Hammerite on my calipers, i painted them in silver ( red is so common now) lol  they blend in nice with the alloys :driving:

check this out, i did the same as lucy. black with red. we both have red in our interior so it looks smart

Did mine it situ with one coat of boggo standard silver hammerite. Cleaned them off, a quick once over with a small wire brush,a squirt of brake cleaner, then one coat of hammerite with an artists brush. Easy really.
