Caliper change help required!

Hey guys, I'd really appriciate any help and guidance!

Over the last few days I keep seeing f series cars with the blue calipers and I really want them.

After doing a quick search, I've seen braking upgrades for the 35i but I have a 20i and only really want it aesthetic reasons. I can settle for painting the brake calipers but I'd rather not.

Anyone had any experience changing these over? What would I need?

Probably bigger wheels an the bigger disks - the 335 we have had 19“ wheels and 340mm or 370mm disks - the winter 18“ wheels however do fit over the calipers.

A warning tho, Discs and Pads are £650 to replace.

One of the 28i guys did a major swap out....his comments were that yes they looked great but on the road he couldn’t say that there was any benefit...

I run a re mapped 20i that run faster than a 28i and can’t say I have ever felt it was underbraked....

I went through this process, I’ve acquired some 28i front discs and a pair of calipers to go with them and having gone through various options, blue, yellow to match the car, will probably go with silver or black...

Personally I think the sliding calipers used on the E89s just don’t look cool when put on too much show..

Also the wheel design is a key issue, wheels with tiddly calipers and small number of thin spokes eg 326m look silly mho...

I see the new G29 M40i Z4 paints them but actually it seems it a sliding Caliper with a cosmetic cheat to make it look like an opposed piston multi pot design...

Your opinions may differ.. :poke:

This is bang on mate. I don't feel any issue with the brakes but like you said, I just feel like they should look better!

I found out today people actually powdercoat calipers so I may just end up doing this.

Good to know about the new z4 cheating it's breaks... It may be an option down the line!

Glad there's no issue with the remap! I keep nagging the wife about wanting one, so it should get approved soon!

Check out Bigg Red brakes Himi. They do calipers, kits, and a fantastic refurb service including power coating. I’ve seen some of their refurbished calipers and they’re outstanding.

As well as the usual £3k+ kits from the Brembo, Alcon etc, K-Sport do an 8-pot front BBK for the E89. Their stuff tends to get OK reviews from the M3 crowd.

I’ve got the 340mm 4 pots fitted to my 28i.

I love them, they look great and you always see “car” people look at them when I’m on the motorway!

I think I paid around £500 for the discs, calipers and pads. They’re a direct fit, no adapters or anything.

Happy to try and help more if you’re interested

This sounds like something in my price range haha. Did you have trouble sourcing all this or was it easy to find?
