Caliper Anti Rattle Clips

I'm going to give the calipers a spruce up and ideally change the anti rattle clips that are rusty and look horrible.
I did think about just painting the ones on there, but I've got a very intermittent clunk on the rear offside that I think is the caliper moving a little now and then. Literally only happens about 1/4 of a mile after moving the car from where it's been parked, then it doesn't appear to come back.
I was wondering if when the brakes are cold there is more friction between pad and disc that causes a bit of caliper movement as the clip seems to have lost a bit of its strength, but then once the brakes are warmed up it's not so much of an issue.
I had a similar issue on my Mini Cooper S and spent many hours trying to work out what the clunking noise was to eventually find it went away if I lifted the handbrake one click. Turned out to be a £5 anti rattle clip. So seems like a good place to start with this noise although the handbrake set up is completely different.
Plus, if I poke a screwdriver through the wheel and try to move the arms of the clip, the potential offending clip just doesn't seem to have as much strenth as the other clips on the other wheels.
Called BMW to order 4 new clips and they wanted £64+vat which seemed a little on the steep side, considering in a years time they'll probably be going rusty again, maybe I'm just being tight!

My question is, has anyone had any experience of buying them elsewhere, seen a couple on eBay that are for a Z4M so should be fine I'd have though and a fraction of the price.

Try euro car parts or brakeparts.co.uk. 64 quid is steep for 4 metal clips

Good shout, didn't even think of Eurocarparts. £11.78 for front and rear fitting kits delivered! I'm assuming each kit contains a left and right, there were two clips in the picture. I'll find out in a couple of days when they arrive.

Thanks

You need to find a better dealer.

£6.99 on ebay from BMW (Stratstone Hull?) with £2 postage. So try Sopers and mention the forum or any other dealer and see what they say.

Cotswold are also another good one, just tell them you are on BMWowner and they will offer a decent discount. Likewise check on realoem.com if they are compatible with any other models, as you could just be paying 'M' when its the same as a non-m part.

Just had a look, quite a few, but all ///M's

I'm going to order a set of these along with some clear engine lacquer to protect. Total cost £16.87

I will remove any paint of on them first and then lacquer.

Interested to see how these turn out.

Driven by the chrome looking ones posted on the caliper refurb?

Indeed. Had planned on removing mine and cleaning them up, but hopefully this will be a bit easier/quicker.

They looked fantastic, just that extra added detail that makes a difference.

You know my 'ability', would changing the clips be easy...even for me?

Wow, even I might be able to do that

Although if I get them off but cannot get them back on, I'm screwed!

No, if you can't get them back on it will just rattle a little.

Hence the name! :headbang:

Wonder if the spoke gap on the 224s are large enough to do it without removing the wheel?

Clips and Lacquer arrived today, with luck get them lacquered at least over the weekend.
