C TeK 5 getting hot

I had a new battery fitted all programmed in. Shortly after moved to a new house and Covid struck so with more than enough to do with the house and no where to go,I put the Z4 on sorn however as the electrics were not finished in the garage and no power near by my battery eventually went flat.
connected the c5 to a temp power supply and started charging the C5 ran through its charging procedure but until it got to stage 7 it ran extremely hot so hot I was not game to run overnight . When stage 7 achieved the temp went to barely warm.

I am assuming it was because I started with a totally flat battery,any one else had this experiance?

They do run hot, and also, they do make a noise. I replaced one (I have 7) as it was buzzing, but the replacement one did the same.

I have the MX5 unit that gets hot, the XS3600 only get luke warm.

Yup, mine gets pretty warm and buzzes all the time. Must be a feature.

Mine gets hot too, I’m a little uncomfortable too! Guess it let’s you know it’s working and not broken

Where are you connecting the CTek?

Direct battery connection or bonnet terminals?

There is a discussion on this previously. If you have an e85/e86 you can connect it anywhere. If it's an e89 you have to use the bonnet terminals.

Yeah, I didnt read that before I wired my CTek battery connection directly to the battery.

As a result, the CTek was noticeably warmer than when I did it via the bonnet terminals.

I have since removed the quick battery connection and only use the bonnet terminals now, with the CTek running much cooler than it was. Still warm, but not hot.

Difference being that direct to the battery you bypass the voltage regulator. I always use the bonnet connection points, never the battery.

Great, if electronics run hot, their longevity is reduced somewhat! I thought something was wrong when mine was wired to the battery, I checked on here and the guys helped me out!
