A young lady from their head office customer relations phoned me today to ask about my Stratstone experience. I bet she wished she hadn't but she did produce a reaction over the water in the lights.
I trust they will be replaced?
Cooper's (Durham) did mine without question

Sounds like you made the right decision for your time of life, heres to the next 27 years of fun car driving  All the points that make it a bad car for you make it the perfect car for me. I love the fact you 'have' to drive it and it isnt numb - working the gearbox, heavy clutch etc. Like your E89 especially the wheels 8) I would love to hear a bit about your old Lotus and any other interesting cars you have owned.

Silver :) You'll be in 'Lux's' good books :)

Wrong maniac!!
Silver is getting common on E89's (not in the white bracket yet though :poke: ) think that's 5 of us now on here, people must be realising its the best colour

Lovey car  I had those wheels on my last one good luck cleaning them

Great write up - enjoy your new car and brilliant to be in a two seater at 73.

When I've been buying land rovers - stratstone ( huge number of land rover) dealerships always start cheapest but normally Guy Salmon ( Sytner) and others beat them on the final deal- guy salmon usually price online a good 10 percent higher but will usually undercut stratstone when you haggle.

First car was a BMW 501 bought for £70 and sold for £10 now worth a lot of noughts. An Austin Healey 3000 MK 3 was next sold that one after blue smoke appeared in Italy whilst having fun with a guy in a Fiat Dino -now worth 100x what I sold it for. Built the Lotus to save tax. My wife was required to follow it because it blew valves every 500 miles (Lotus never fixed it) otherwise was a lovely car. Sold to Rob Walker for £600 profit - only time I've ever done that. Only other noteworthy cars were Ford Twin cam and seriously tuned RS1600 which I hill climbed along with an Arden Mini Cooper S. A new Porsche Carrera appeared in 1980 but sold it 6 months later as it had no use on British roads except for parking in prominent places which is not my scene. Just sold my trusty 545i auto. 23K miles in 10 years went in p/e. I will miss that car. It was the best I ever had. Now we use my wife's X1 for suitcases.

Always liked Silver cos it doesn't show the dirt like white but would have gone for a blue one if there had been one.

Stratstones remind me of those Leeds dealers working on bombsites on Kirkstall Road in the 50's and 60's. If you went back with a problem they'd vanished.

UPDATE:- By taking on Stratstones via their customer services 01423 855510 I seem to be getting a response. I include the number 'cos it took ages and some luck to find it i.e. they phoned me and my phone memorised it.

Just called me! Seems my local dealer (cooper) have been given the go ahead to fix it.

for me anyway. I just discovered that Halfords tyres are on average £20 cheaper per tyre inc fitting etc than Blackcircles which was a surprise to me. eg conti sport 5 RF BMW fitment £148 for 225x40x18's.

They maybe cheaper however you will have to spend £70 per wheel for a refurb after the Halfrauds animals have marked them all.

PS cheers for the car run down.

If that's the case they have never met me before. I have become something of an expert at dealing with the cruddy business practices of new-Brit outfits and I can assure you that if there is but one significant mark on my wheels you'll hear my response on the darkside of the moon. However, if they remain unmarked I shall mention your remark and tell them how pleased I am that the Scarboro branch proved much superior to the East Cheam branch or wherever your wheels were ruined and possibly give them a tip for a pint.

Interesting write up - thanks. . .

I'm now going to see how much Goodyear Eagles are at Halfords having just had two fronts fitted via Blackcircles!

:driving:

I only checked Michelin, Conti and Bridgestone and all were around the same.

Good choice the 35i is a great all rounder.
A double push on the unlock makes the window glass drop for even better access.

The dct is just amazing. Well worth the 7k.

Just tried that. The windows dropped but so did the roof! Presumably a choice is available somewhere.
