another backward step surely is the changes that you cant sell yr car with tax on, why? just makes it harder for everyone, dont get the thinking behind this , again its less choice for us :thumbsdown:

However if you buy a car privately you can drive it off without any insurance and these changes mean that the new owner will need to tax the car and in order to do so will also need insurance, just like buying from a garage you need insurance before you can drive it off. Watching these motorway cop things it's amazing how many people drive around with cars bought second hand with tax and they have no insurance.

The amazing thing is ANPR is only fitted to traffic cars and not the usual 'panda' cars and the law was changed so that if someone had a taxed car but no insurance they would be automatically fined and if people do not tax their car or declare a SORN again they are supposedly automatically fined but that doesn't always happen. I can only assume with the new way to pay VED that they have made the system more robust to deal with insurance and tax dodgers. ANPR shouldn't need to be used to find these people if the system worked properly.

It will make it harder for the low life's to evade capture as the vehicle will need to be both taxed and insured instead of just insured.

DD annually has no extra charge attached so if your happy to pay yearly then it's no biggie and takes out the hassle of going online every year to renew it.

It does make you laugh that most companies ie utilites, phone etc want you to pay by DD and if you don't they charge you more but this is the opposite.

It's cos most stuff that charges less (leccie, gas etc) you pay in arrears so they get money earlier from dd, for road fund licence you pay in advance so by paying monthly they get money later. Time value of money.

But if you choose to pay monthly I believe that it will be taken on the 1st of the month to cover that month so that will be advance and not in arrears.

Yeah but you are only paying each month in advance as opposed to a whole year so the value to them is less.

There are 41,558 people trying to sell tax disc holders on e.bay. They're very cheap so now is a very good time to buy

Makes no odds to me. I'll still need to display my security pass in that area.

Direct debit is good. I'll just put away some money each month and pay it in one go, saves paying anything extra.

Its bad enough trying to remember when your MOT is due never mind your tax.
I hated the disc but it was good to have as a reminder.
If they are no longer printing discs and sending them out should tax not get cheaper? They are saving money.

I know it wont happen but realistically they should be.

Depends how you pay I guess, if you go DD then you wont get a reminder. The physical disc makes no difference to this process though.

DD route will also take the sting out of the //M tax bracket!

how ? doesnt hide the fact that it is a balatant rip off, when an M doing 3k per annum is 500 and a poxy diesel can do 100k per year for 30 quid . the great carbon con again :thumbsdown:

we have had a pleasant end to summer because the jet stream is in a certain place. three weeks and they are already saying its climate change and we need more green taxes and faster legislation of meeting targets for emissions, etc etc , I am absolutely sick of them all
