Buying within the EU

Hi all,

Am I right in thinking if you order goods within the EU you don't pay any import duty? Do you still pay VAT? or any processing fees. Looking to buy from Italy.

Thanks,

Tim.

Depends on what you buy, some things attract duty (alcohol over certain limits).

If you buy car parts or so, you don't pay anything within the EU. If you buy a car, you don't pay the VAT or local duties in country of purchase but you pay the VAT on entry in the UK.

On business goods, I can claim VAT back from foreign purchases if I do the paperwork.

What are you looking to buy as that would help.

Thanks for the Linky Gary.

Thanks for the info pvr, looking at the hmrc website it looks like nothing additional will be payable.

I'm looking to buy a Tag watch, its from an Authorised retailer in Italy so a legit supplier. I can't seem to find any sellers who have the watch in stock in the UK and the only other is in USA so will pay a hefty duty so wish to avoid that. Just wanted to ensure I don't get stung. I wasn't sure if within the EU you don't pay any duty so long as the seller covers this in the selling price but looks like it applies only to tobacco and alcohol.

Tim.

Watch is fine as you will pay VAT in country of origin in the EU.
