Buying new rims, what wheels do I need?

Hi,
I am in desperate need of your expertise! Please give me the "wheels for dummies" answers. :wink:
I have the opportunity to buy the following rims:

The information given in the ad is the following:
Original 19" rims for BMW M3 E46 for sale. Rims are like new. 8.5x19 ET 47 and 9.5x19 ET 26.

I am unsure what type of tires I need to fit on them. What "measurements" should they have? Different rear and front? Do I need to do anything when fitting them, or can I simply take off the current wheels and screw on these?

Also, any suggestions for what brand/type of tyre? I think that I still want to go for run-flats.

The last thing: The floor is open for your comments. Do you think these will look good on the Z4? I think I have seen pictures of a car with these wheels, and IMO they look really nice. :D
 
sorry wont fit your z4

you need different et values on a z
min 47 front and min 50 rear
max 35 front and max 40 rear

oem staggered set is
8x18xet 47 front with 225x45 x18 tyres
8,5x18xet 50 rear with 255x40x18

So i need to look for rims with ET value between 35 and 47 for the front and between 40 and 50 for the rear?
Is that valid for all rim-sizes, or just the 19'' that I was looking at?

I actually did google before posting here. However, as I wrote, I needed the "for dummies" version, as I know absolutely nothing about all of this. So thanks for the link, but I don´t understand what to look for. :oops:
I did see that you have the same wheels that I am looking to get. What ET values do you have on yours? How come it is possible to find these rims with different ET values, if they are all fitted to the M3?

I apologise for all my stupid questions. For you guys who understand all this they may be simple questions. But I have no idea how to navigate through all the information I found online, it is all jibberish to me. :?
 
stupid is as stupid does :D

et is the same as offset

it means that the center of the wheel is closer to the outside of the wheel wen the offset nr is higher
that means the wheel sits more closely to the car

example: et 18 (for bmw m5 e39) at the back,these wheels have the deep dish look.
they come a lot more to the outside then a et 50 wheel

staggered means wider wheels at the back than in front

the m3 wheels on the car you linked to are probably the fronts for the m3 as the offset for the front of m3 is 40 something
so they will fit on all four corners of your z4
 
no there are members with M3 and Z4M wheels (full sets) on here not using 4 fronts as you suggested.
 
Z4_in_Norway, they theoretically could fit but you might have to go more radical on the tires. Iused to have 225/45/17 tyre on OEM 17x8 rim and now on the same rim I have 235/40/17 tyre - I am amazed how much clearenace I have, I can actually lower the car and stick 30mm spacers on it with no rubbing at all! So the thing is, you might have to go with a 255/30/18 tyre in the back instead of the standard corresponding 255/35/18. DO you understand what I am suggesting here? :)
 
Z4_in_Norway, by the way, we used to have a common "grinding mettalic noise during start" issue. Did you resolve it somehow? :)

The wheels I was looking at were 19 inch, but I still understand your point. :D
However, I am now getting more confused (no big surprise!)... :wink:
I thought the issue with the ET value was whether or not the wheel would actually fit on the car, due to the offset. But you are now talking about clearance, right?
As srhutch is saying, several members use a full set of these M3-rims. So that must mean that they somehow fit on the car, both with respect to clearance and with respect to the offset?

Perhaps there might be an issue with clearance, but since several members have 19s, that must only be an issue of finding the appropriate profile of the tyre, to make sure there is enough clearance?

the issue withe the clearance will become a problem when the wheels are sticking out too far or even reaching to much into the wheel arch!

im currently runnig a set of bbs ch blacks in 19 inch with 235x35x19 tyres in front

and the fronts rub the wingliner when coming across a dent in the road when im going a bit too fast
same with speedbumps

at the rear ive got 265x30x19 on 9,5jx19 x et 40 and those clear the car verey good but i think lowering the offset will be too much

anyway apply the current messuerments and the ones you want or are looking at in the machine in the link and you will see if there wil be a problem
