Okay, z3 owner and I’m off to see my first z4 tomorrow.

2.0 20i M Sport Convertible 2dr Petrol Manual sDrive Euro 6 (s/s) (184 ps)
31,800 miles2016 (66 reg)ManualPetrol
£13,995
Blue.

Full dealer service history
Full mot with no advisories.

Any advice greatly appreciated please!

Look for water in the boot (where the battery is). Look for moisture in all light lenses. Check the roof works easily and freely several times.

Being a very late car I am guessing it is Estoril Blue, like this one of ours?

Use a vin check to bottom out what options it was fitted with…some folks repent at leisure when they discover assumed options were not present..later cars like this one tend to more ‘fully loaded’ but just be aware if goodies are important to you…plenty of cars on the market so take your time..

Yeah, estoril. Nice!

Thanks for the advice both. Will absolutely do that. What’s your take on having it checked out by clickmechanic or the like?

Thanks all!

£13995 sounds a lot for a private sale. Prices have taken a sharp rise in the last few weeks since the sun came out.

Buying now does look like you're paying the summertime premium.

I agree to a degree. But it is one of the last off the production line (late 2016 registered) and they did tend to put quite a few 'goodies' on the later run-out cars (mine has almost everything except the top hi-fi but we won't go into that AGAIN). Estoril was only available on the last production run, so makes them somewhat 'different', if not necessarily sought after (yet).

I paid the same money for the car pictured above (Jan this year) with 24k miles.

Update. Seen two z4’s today.

Both 2.0 m sport. Valencia orange and estoril blue.

Orange
Didn’t like the sound of the n20 under 4,000 revs. Bit of whining noise if you ask me. Could be paranoid but it was 2014 and done almost 50k. Can’t take the risk. No idrive.

Blue
Lovely, but had been under a polishing mop by some idiot who clearly didn’t know what they were doing. Bonnet covered in swirls. Also needed two tyres and wouldn’t budge on price anyway.

Come access a jap import from a dealer. Looks great. What’s your thoughts on an import?

Also. White. Seems common but they do look nice don’t they?!

It’s been a long day!

I wouldn't buy an import unless it was something rare or special.

I have noticed a lot of Japanese BMW and Volvos up for sale recently.

Alpine White is a common colour for the E89....for good reason. It's lush! Shows off the swage lines more than any other colour IMHO.

Almost more than any other colour.

Mineral white is the nuts IMHO, but far harder to find on an e89. Shifts in the light - whitey / ivory / pearly - very nice indeed.

Once you have seen it, it will ruin alpine white forever.

That’s a really smart looking car Andy.

Yeah. I don't where it is now. Last time I heard, it was sitting in a garage somewhere out in the 'sticks' with some new 'carlos fandango' seats in it.

Only if you put Alpine White next to it….. then I agree. But on its own it’s a peach. I gave a red bike that I like but my mate puts his red bike next to it and it kills it….Always park next to another colour

There doesn’t see a lot of enthusiasm for the 20i engine in the E89 so which is the best choice for reliability, N52 ?.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the N20 and they drive well. For me my first Z4s (E85) were all the 3.0l variants so for me I associate a Z4 with a nice smooth 6 cylinder. So on a personal level I would be looking at a 3.0. The downside to this is that you would be looking at a slightly older E89 and wouldn’t be looking at the estriol blues and Valencia oranges as this came in the facelifts….unless you were happy to go the 35i 35is route…

I’m confused with regard to ‘M’ models. The n20 is full of 1.8 and 2.0 ‘M’ sports. I’m really not that keen on the n20 regarding the Cam chain. And I don’t want to map.

As I would rather have a straight 6, I’m looking at things like:

3.0 30i sDrive Euro 5 2dr
37,748 miles2010 (59 reg)ManualPetrol £12,800
Alpine white, lots of extras.

3.0 35is Petrol DCT sDrive Euro 5
65,000miles 13 Reg. £15.500
Grey, lots of extras.

What am I missing out on, with this not being an ‘M’

Thank you again all, really appreciated.
