Looking at an 08 MR in black with a few tweaks and a little unsure about the servicing.

It’s done 42k, but never had inspection 2 and inspection 1 was back in 2012 at about 25/26k. Only 2 other minor services after this, one BMW in 2014 then an Indy in 2016. Does this sound right? Am most concerned about the valve adjustments. Engine seems good and handling seems normal.

Has has a remap and new airbox/filter (AFE). There’s also an awful looking and bloody loud exhaust fitted (see pic). Appears to be only back boxes. Originals are available. There’s also a seriously nasty/cheap stick on mini-diffuser which needs to go.

Thanks in advance!

42k is about when the first Ins 2 is due. What does the dash say when you turn the ignition on. It should tell you when the next service is due. If it is in the next few thousand miles then that sounds about right to me. If it is several thousand miles then something is not right.

The valve clearances should be checked at each inspection 1&2. They won't necessarily be recorded though.

So in short if the service is due soon. It should be and ins 2. The valve clearances need to be checked then regardless. The cost for an ins 2, including clearance check diff & gearbox oil change and brake fluid change, will be in the region of £600 to £1000. Hope that helps you with your decision making. :)

Lovely car once the rear end has had some attention .
Without doubt it needs Ins2 straight off, OK only 42k covered but 11yrs still with original gearbox & diff fluid not ideal.
Its pricey imo at £18700 especially factoring the required ins2 & at 42k could well be on original discs & pads so pay attention to those as that's another potential £800/£850 spend.
Plus points for the spec & has aeros by the looks of it which are a very desirable add on.
Update thread as you go & good luck

I would agree that it’s a bit pricy especially with an insp 2 needed. The biggest thing that would stop me even going to see the car though is the £192 administration fee. Your a car dealer and you sell cars. This will obviously need some administrative work. This is a business cost not something that should be charged to a customer as a separate item. Never understood the logic of putting a fee on that the customer just sees as a way of extracting more money from them. Just cost it into the asking price of the car.

Descent looking example from the pics on the website, but the last owner(s) seem to have spent all they're budget on trinkets and not on the mechanicals. As Mr Wilks said, it definitely needs an Insp. 2 and all fluids changed. But then again this should give you some bargaining power, if you're keen to buy...looks like Ruby Black in a couple of the close ups on the website, which I think, makes it fairly rare? Good luck, OP. Would be good to have another 'Kent ///M' close by!
