Buying Euros

We've got two holidays planned for this summer - one to Italy in May and one to Greece in August - been watching the exchange rate falling each day and am considering buying a 1000 or so euros now before it falls back to the old days of 1.10 or even less - anybody with a crystal ball out there :? EU referendum is around June ( I think ) if we opt out then surely the pound will plummet ?

Just go and buy them now! Ive still got €1500 ish in the safe from last year when it was €1.40/£
It makes the first week or two a little less expensive - I can't see the rate improving somehow.

I think there will be a queue forming if they find that crystal ball - all the experts that have been wrong before will want a look!

Llikewise. Fairfx is at 1.25 at the moment. As ronk says, you will just have to bite the bullet and buy when you are ready and don't worry about it too much.

As soon as I bought mine last year, it started to move up, typical! Grrrrr

where are you going to in Italy and Greece?

In tesco supermarkets that have a cash exchange their rate is a bit lower than their online rate - however they've always matched the rate!

Our first time to Italy - lido di jesolo Venice

We go every year to Greece - visited most of the popular islands but discovered Thassos 15 years ago and have been going there every year since :D :D

Best Island in Greece IMHO is Mylos. Then Paksoi and Antipaksoi

Athens is really nice but only if you know where to go. e.g. Plaka, Thiseio etc

As for Italy Rome>Florence>Venice

(I spend my time between Greece and Italy)

Ace-Fx is currently 1.267 - i get all mine from there, very convenient for me as they have a branch close to my office

Thanks for all the tips - ironically the rate has improved today - with our Greek holiday this year we're going independent ie flight only and then staying at the place where we have always used their sunbeds - a young Greek couple who we have made friends with over the years who have 8 studios within 30 metres of the beach - paradise ! Already paid a deposit by bank transfer and balance to be paid on arrival in euros which is why I was asking the question in the first place.

We have picked up a bit of Greek over the years and always try to use it while we are there but it is a difficult language to learn - I have the highest regard for all the waiters out there who can manage English , German , East European etc.

Out of interest what airport do you use to get to Mylos ?

not a very difficult language, just different. Easy to learn how to speak, difficult to learn to write

If you're near London consider getting an account with metrobank, no fees for use in europe. They give you the card the same day so possible to get one if flying out from London too.
