Not getting it till Friday so will check it then, if its not fully up to date they have misrepresented the car so I will walk away with my deposit back.

What should an 07 with 18000 miles have had? Just the 2 year service?

Well assuming its a March 2007 car it should have had an oil change by March 2009 and a brake fluid change.
Then by March 2011 inspection 1 will be due, something worth considering as thats not far away.

Im not 100% sure on this are brake fluid changes required every 2 years also ?
 
This AUC problem seems quite common I had the same thing happen to me last year turned out that the car had never had a service, three and a half years old but the dealer said it would still be able able to qualify as AUC but I was not happy so I called the warranty Dept and they said that it would not be covered in the event of a claim, needless to say I walked. It is just upsetting when you go to the main dealer you expect a bit better than that.
 
Also if it`s within 3mths/4K miles or 4mths/3K miles of it`s next service (I forget which of the 2 it is) the service should be done early as part of the AUC prep.
 
Its a September 07 so that should mean then it should have had one in September 09 and will be due in September 2011.

He clearly told me it had full service history when I was talking to him so if it hasnt he hasnt got a leg to stand on really.
 
Sorry to bring this back up again but Ive come across another 2 cars since I started this thread one a 56 plate which had never been serviced ! And another that had missed it's service by 20 months.

Both dealers have said they will issue a letter stating should there be any problems they would foot the bill.
Im thinking dont do it but I'm getting fed up with looking now lol
 
When I picked up my AUC roadster the dealership had forgotten to service it altogether! Had to sit around for over an hour whilst it was rushed through the workshops! :roll:

I'll be honest the car drove so nicely though that I didn't bother doing many checks with the service history, any problems in the first year will be covered on the warranty and I don't think that the dealership would have a leg to stand on if they tried to wriggle...

I'm thinking about resale time too, this could put potential buyers off buying the car specially out of warranty.
 
Mine will have good history by the time I part with it, if I ever do that is. I may just keep it and let it run and run and run.

I've had the full front end resprayed now to remove the stone chips, the rear is all new paint following my accident last year, the car is basically mint so I'll be damned if I'm going to give it away for someone else to benefit from! :wink:

Well the dealer has offered to do the inspection 1 service so it would be up to date in terms of a 4 year old car.

But its 56 plate car and it didnt get an oil service until Aug 2010 (1st service) and now it would be getting Inspection 1 this month.

Opinions appreciated :?

Walk away, when you try to move it on buyers will be very wary.
 
Totally agree with srhutch walk away and look for another car with correct history including brake service every 2 years.
Also get an independent check, if dealers lie about service history what other problems could be hidden.
 
I know this is the right thing to do. Just very annoying when I find the car at the right price then this happens again ! And it's obvious that BMW will take the car back so would it really effect resale .....
 
BMW dealers are effectively franchises operating to agreed standards under the logo of BMW with their corporate support (and this costs them). This requires them to act in accordance with agreed standards set by BMW. If they flout the standards then why not report it to BMW or at the very least challenge the dealer.

Remember when buying preowned from a BMW franchised dealer you are not buying from BMW but entering into a contract of sale with THE DEALER or should be complying with BMW set sales standards.

If when your spending £15-30k or whatever and dont take the time to make a few simple checks with regard to condition etc then really when it starts to go wrong you realy have only yourself to blame.
 
Hope you find the right car adam81 - my criteria were exactly the same (coupe, 56/07 plate, sub 25k on the clock) and I was lucky enough to find one about a month into looking. Must have just been lucky in that it's been serviced by BMW from new, and at the correct intervals. And because the next service was due fairly soon they performed it prior to purchase. And they stuck two new Bridgestones on the rear!

Are you prepared to travel? I kept extending the distance from postcode on the AUC search and eventually found one 150 miles from my home address, worth travelling for the right car.
 
Thanks hype yes I'm willing to travel for the right car.

As it happens I've been in touch with BMW UK today and they are now saying that as long as the car has full BMW service history there isn't a problem and the warranty does cover any issues. They said that BMW only recommend that oil is changed every 2 years and as long as the OBC hasn't went a few thousand miles over all is well !

I have got this in writing and in a voice mail, I'm a little puzzled but it explains why so many BMW dealerships are selling cars that have gone past service intervals. :tumbleweed:
