Buying an E89

Having had my E85 written off I'm looking for a new car, budget is 8.5k which looks like getting either a 2.3 or possibly a 3.0. My E85 was a 3.0 so not sure if the 2.3 will enough (heavier car) Anyone made the same move offer any advice on the engines and any must have options ? looking for an auto with parking sensors (looooong bonnet). Cheers

I changed from the E85 to the E89 and went for the 3.0 auto with paddle shift on the steering wheel and very pleased with it, lots of power when needed and a monster in sport mode

I went from a 3.0si to a 23I (which has a 2.5 engine not 2.3) Yes its not quite as pokey and its a bit heavier but its such a nicely put together car it didn't really matter (to me). I really enjoyed my time in it but you have to know you are getting into a great gt car and sunny day cruiser rather than the sportier e85, I'd certainly try and test drive one before making any decisions as they are quite different.

if you like listening to music in the car avoid the base 6 speaker system like the plague as its awful, you'd need to be prepared to throw a minimum £600 and lots of time and effort to get it sounding acceptable..other than that look for a well loved car, there will definitely be some shitters at your price range, some are starting to show their age but there will be some well looked after examples out there too, good hunting

More comfortable than the E85 is a plus, if a car has the i-drive system does it have the better stereo included ?

Not necessarily….you need to tip the vin into a decoder and look for 676 or 677 options

Lots of 23i at that price point...here's a 30i auto..

Depends on whether you want performance or more goodies..

FWIW one of zed buddies has a 23i and keeps up pretty well with the heavier artillery most of the time..

I'm trying to up my budget to 9.5K to give me more options, I'd like to get one with most of the goodies

Im in the same boat, sold my E86 and now thinking about an E89 and really want the N52 engine again with 3 litres inside it!

I've had the same 23i for the last 8 years, I've never felt disadvantaged and it seems to have kept up with the bigger boys on the runs. It's been extremely reliable and cost effective, it also sounds great. I rather have a car with the goodies over a second here and there acceleration without the goodies.
