Buying an E86 auto or manual?

I have the auto in my 3.0 Si. I use it to take to work when the weather is good and for this the auto is great as it is for longer 'regular' trips. I also like a weekend blast in the hills too around where I live (https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=116453). I hit the sports button, knock the stick over into the manual slot and either use bump up and bump down on the stick, or the paddles. To be fair, I have not driven the manual so do not have a comparison to be totally impartial, but I do not find the auto wanting for my needs and I get plenty of traction light coming on when in 'weekend mode' - I find the auto to be completely immersive :) :driving:- great fun!

Mine is the first automatic I've owned and I'm really impressed, the paddles are excellent and it's so much easier to drive than my manual daily!

Hi guys,

Finally took the plunge and went for e86 3.0 SI manual. Really liked the solid/notchy feel and is great with that straight 6 engine. Really enjoying it.

Gear knob advice - I would like to replace the existing e86 stainless steel knob with the 'ZHP' m sport smaller black one. Does anyone know the model number for this so can order?

Seen another thread that mentions the below:
ZHP 25117896886. Has an "M" logo in the middle of the gear change pattern badge.

However BMW dealer said this is not listed to fit the e86 z4 coupe. Help please?!

That 25117896886 part number is definitely the same one that I have installed in both a 2005 E90 330i and a 2007 E86 Z4 3.0si coupe. 6 speed with M logo on it. Fitted perfectly in both cars. I think you can also get a 5 speed one (almost certainly a different part number though), so just ensure you order the correct one.

Thanks very much. I will go for this one from the BMW dealer despite their general reservations. 6 speed is the one yes.

Thanks for help.

That's the same Part Number as the one I bought and it fits just fine.

It wasn't offered on Z4s, but I think it was standard on the E46 3 Series Sport models.

And don't forget the photos.
