Buying advice

I’m new on here and looking to buy a Z4. There is a 2006 2.5si Sport currently on eBay / Gumtree that the mileage and condition description sounds dead on but has a suspect faulty hydraulic pump motor for the roof. Is it normally just the motor or could it possibly be a big can of worms?
Cheers

99 times out of 100 it will be the usual fix that a few members on the forum can do for around £100 so wouldn't be too put off if the rest of the car appeals to you
Welcome to the forum

Hi, welcome to the forum. It's not uncommon to have a dodgy roof motor, there are several members on this forum that can usually get them going for between £80 and £150 - and then relocate the motor into the boot to prevent it getting wet (due to a pi$$ poor design).
Personally speaking if the car is otherwise sound I wouldn't be put off due to a faulty roof motor.

Thanks for the advice, had chance now to look around the forum and learned a bit about the roof mechanism. The great service that some of the guys offer for the roof I have read about and the feedback from people they have helped gives me more confidence to go and have a look at the car.
Thanks again!

Just make sure that the catches at the top of the windscreen release/latch. If they do then it's the motors has drowned in the Zed's mobile acquarium.

It would be a result to buy one with an already knackered motor as you'll get some money off and then you'll soon meet a Forum member who'll fix it for you!

Use the motor issue as a bargaining tool to drop the price then take it to Durham Dave for quick sorting

Roof motor was once a worry. But due to the number that have failed the knowledge has grown and cost to repair and relocate has dropped. :D So as above use it as a bargaining chip, assuming the rest of the car checks out.
