Buying advice sought. Thoughts on this car?

Thanks for all the help folks. I use in car sat nav all the time. Im also planning some big road trips so sat nav is essential. Google maps is good but id need to keep my phone plugged in and i found this summer, that using the phone for nav and music drained the battery faster than the car could charge it.
I like the sound of adding to i drive to get android auto etc.
Any idea how much that costs, approx?
If you have the phone plugged into the charging point in the centre armrest, yes it does charge sloooowly. However, using a fast adaptor in the cigarette lighter is much more efficient.

Its not econimical or technically viable to retrofit idrive for human beings..if you're a god with a degree in quantum wave mechanics then fill your boots..

No idrive but like something similar then its a android head unit with an idrive like knob controller..

It's good to see you dodged a bullet with that Cat S car!

The 30i seems to be quite hard to find, but if you like to get a bit of a shift on sometimes it's probably worth seeking out.

The N52 engine seems to be pretty bulletproof. There is a forum member whose E86 has done 200K miles, but someone on another forum has an E9* that has done 400K!

Folks
Im in the market for a E89.
Thinking straight 6 engine naturally aspirated rather than turbo.
Any advice appreciated.
There are lots out there and this one caught my attention.
Your thoughts would be appreciated. Mileage? Spec? Etc.
Thanks folks.

This is where I was back in August.

I put a wanted ad on here with a spec I wanted and options I'd compromise on. Got most of my first choice and second choice colour and interior.

For my twopenneth; get the 30i, auto or manual (I wanted auto), don't go for M Sport as its just too hard to enjoy on our rubbish roads, I drive is great at the standard radio location is hard to navigate when moving, heated seats are a must. Service history and condition are important. I paid a decent price but got a low mileage (50k) meticulously maintained 30i with I drive and heated seats

This is the one I've got, along with many other forum members.
There is others out there, but I have no experience with them.

To round this off and to avoid being perceived as unnecessarily grumpy, I do like I-drive in the E89 but it’s a bit old (mine isn’t updated) and cumbersome to use. Even when I have modern I-drive in my 2021 car I still prefer to use the wife/phone pairing when we are in Spain where most of our miles are done. I would wholeheartedly agree that the main problem however with Google maps is taking you down unsuitable rural roads or tiny streets in the centre of towns - and Spanish ones can be very narrow. Or trying to take you back to the previous way point if you didn’t quite go to the centre “proceed to the route, PROCEED TO THE ROUTE, PROCEED ….”

But yes as the OP says the phone battery can deplete faster than the car can charge it with Google maps.

Thanks for your thoughts, advice and experience on this.
My daily is a 2016 Merc GLC with their fairly dated sat nav. Im currently driving to rotterdam from Frankfurt and to be honest, the sat nav is excellent. I don't like wires hanging loose or phone holders stuck on windscreen etc. IMHO an original sat nav with good clear screen is easier to use on the move than my mobile phone- and its legal if i do need to zoom in etc.
I would be interested in upgrading the standard unit however, as a previous post mentioned, to get Android auto etc etc on the BMW screen.
So, for me a Sat Nav/iDrive is on my list of things a Z4 needs to have.
Thanks again everyonr

If you like Mercedes, consider a facelift 171 SLK. Suspension is a bit soft, but it's a great car for the Autobahn and easy to get an automatic

I did consider Any slk/slc. Nice but not as comfortable as the z4. Also found the roadholding a wee bit loose in the back end. The Z4 feels more spacious in the cabin too.

The E89 is a much prettier car too! If you actually look at the lines (some colours accentuate them more than others), they are a class design.
