Buying advice sought. Thoughts on this car?

Folks
Im in the market for a E89.
Thinking straight 6 engine naturally aspirated rather than turbo.
Any advice appreciated.
There are lots out there and this one caught my attention.
Your thoughts would be appreciated. Mileage? Spec? Etc.
Thanks folks.

Way too expensive for a Cat S write off. That's full retail for a proper car. Should be about half that.
Are you sure you want to take the risk of a Cat S car?

Rusty wheel nuts, bubbling alloys, a worn steering wheel, a passenger door a different colour, a 15-year-old car, then it's a 16-year-old car. Cat S, short for serious trouble in my book, so impossible to sell. Number plate not shown, so you can't see how bad the MOT history is. Avoid!!!

Im keen to get Sat Nav as i hope to do a lot of touring.
Anyone have knowledge of retro fitting an aftermarket system?
Not so many good Z4 options out there with the bmw I drive so it would open up the search possibilities if I could have a system retro fitted.
Thanks again

Getting one with idrive is defintely the easy option then adding a MMI box to get carplay is very easy.

Otherwise its a carplay screen wedged into the oddment tray or an android unit with custom moulding to rep[ace the odd ment tray

Loads of these on here if you use the search function!

If you manage to get one with the idrive, you can fit an after market MMI box that'll give you carplay etc. Others have fitted android screens without idrive, though. What's your budget? Others could keep an eye out for you, also.

I was in a similar position recently and i think you need to think about a few other things to assist your search.
Do you want a standard s drive car, or an M Sport?
Differences are clear when you look at them (lower, bodykit, badges and a better steering wheel).

2.5 (23i) or 3.0 (30i). Same engine (N52) but notable power difference.

How far will you travel? I went nearly 300 miles to get the right car!

As others will tell you. Buy on condition and history (especially this), not the age.
That said, these n/a cars were only available from 2009 to 2011 (have seen a couple of 2012 registered at silly money) in the E89 before the 2.0 4 pots took over (the twin turbo 3.0 was available from the start).

Oh and set a realistic budget.
The 30i in particular hold their value better than other models.

Do get idrive if you want sat-nav.
As those wiser than me have said, upgrading that system is easier and cleaner than fitting a solution with a screen.
Most other things can be retrofitted as I am learning!

Do you want a standard s drive car,
They're all s drive! Just means two wheel drive, although I have no idea why BMW thought it a good idea to advertise it on the sides on the E89.

E89s come in two 'specs'. SE and M-sport. Main differences are bumpers, suspension (m sport is bloody uncomfortable) and seats. Everything else pretty much is an option on both.

I thought most people use their phones for sat nav these days? I know the youngsters all do.

My daughter has a 2015 Polo with sat nav, but always uses her phone as she says it is infinitely better.

It’s nice to have I-drive not least because it avoids you having the stupid oddment tray in the dash. But I never use it for sat nav.

I stated it that way for simplicity of identifying the different models to us uneducated types ;)

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with the M Sport suspension (once you get rid of the awful runflats) and the sports seats are excellent.

In-car sat-nav's are rubbish in my experience and I use Google maps because it is very good.
As previously stated by myself and others, having i-drive means you can easily upgrade to use things like Google maps.

Now quit being so damn grumpy! :p

It depends on how and where you drive and for what reasons..

For example

I mostly do structured runs with 4-10 other Zeds.

We're doing about 5 hours and 200 miles a day.

I run my MMI box with carplay on my iDrive with Google maps and with the voice integration and idrive knob its a breeze to easily and safely dynamically navigate to the next waypoit be it fuel station, cafe, turn etc etc..if things change it 'knows' the most likely thing I'm about to ask..so if say we had booked a Premier Inn at Thurso, if I push the idrive knob to select P it almost certainly will offer Premier Inn Thurso as a top 3 choice..so so easy..

However in a multi leg journey in car play you only see the first leg.

I put my final stop in the original idrive map and have audio off.

At any time I can see the quickest / shortest route to the final waypoint and if needed can go direct just by pushing a single button..then back to car play...utterly brilliant..

In addition because traffic info comes via different routes you get two shots at traffic/road closures as neither is perfect.

Also Google maps will often route you through side streets etc whilst idrive map seldomn does.

Became very clear when I followed a Forum member who was using a phone google map and over 5 days we went for many interesting diversions as unlike carplay or idrive you get little spatial context.

Of course if you never drive your car /only go 25 miles to the same old place you'll never apprciate it.

It's only stupid if it's of no use to you. I find it very useful. Each to their own.

True - I only mean that it looks like an after thought in place of what is meant to be there. Of course it’s likely to be very useful.

Thanks for all the help folks. I use in car sat nav all the time. Im also planning some big road trips so sat nav is essential. Google maps is good but id need to keep my phone plugged in and i found this summer, that using the phone for nav and music drained the battery faster than the car could charge it.
I like the sound of adding to i drive to get android auto etc.
Any idea how much that costs, approx?
