They don’t get ‘worn out’ as such, but the oil used to lubricate them (whether it being engine or transmission) can degrade over time, which may potentially cause future problems down the line.

Anyways I’m coming off this topic as it seems to have opened a can of worms :cry:
 
For those who seem to have turned this into a debate about whether 12 yrs is too long for ins2 its perhaps worth reading the whole thread then grasp the context as its never even been questioned :wink: i simply said " 12 years without a Ins2 is not exactly over serviced :roll: " so sand in your fanny's over nothing :)

As for the Bmw service bulletin :oops: what a good read that is , states the regime is designed to keep costs down for the owner but more interestingly

BMW recommends that you have maintenance
and repair work performed by BMW Service.
Make sure that any maintenance work performed
is recorded in the Service Booklet.
These entries are evidence that your car has
been serviced regularly

&

If and when you come to sell your BMW, a comprehensive
record of maintenance will prove a
significant benefit.

maybe not a concern to those who wish to keep their cars forever but for the others who do want to sell the service record is a vital tool

Appreciate you’re off the topic now :D , but just to be clear I am well aware of this... god knows it has been discussed countless times in the years I have been on here. That’s why I said “otherwise properly maintained”, which would include oil changes every 2 years.

There’s no sand in my fanny Mr Wilks, otherwise I’d go back and pull all your quotes about your opinion of a 12 year gap over the last few pages into here... But I have more respect for you - and your fanny - than that. Like you, I just offered my personal experience and an opinion. Now if there’s room on that couch I will join you both there :lol:
