Buying a Z4... value advice

Hi

I have been looking at various Z4's one thing i have noticed is that they are always for sale above the CAP Value. There is a Z4M im looking at is £15k and £2500 above Cap Private sale value...

The E89 is even worse... One is listed way above CAP and even £6000 above what webuyanycar will offer for it.

I know the discounts have been huge on lots of Z4's.... Is this a case of people not being in touch with reality or the valuation not accurate to what people are willing to pay...

Given that if i ever sell the car as it will be a weekend toy its important i dont over pay as selling it will hurt alot.

Thanks

Z4 bo different to any other car mate . Study the market well , do your homework on spec & history then buy on your gut instinct
If you offer up here any possibles that interest you then we will freely comment on its merits & value :D

Yes it seems insane.

A 2010 Z4 was on AT the other day £2000 less than CAP with DCT and M sport. That clearly sold as it was gone in a few days.

Also should they be cheap now we have 6 months of winter coming up?

Z4M's are a different kettle of fish tbh buddy. They regularly go for more than what any car book would recommend they should. a dealership would put a 15k Z4M on their forcourt for at least 16-17k just because they sell and tend to be a bit of a rarer car these days. Since ive had mine I have noticed the average price has risen slightly and they seem to have appreciated a bit in value. but you should be able to pick up a decent one for around the 15K mark. Check for full service history though! And good luck. truly an awesome machine!

Its a jungle out there......Lots of cheaper but shockingly shite Z4's out there!
You get what you pay for....CAP values....
Your going to lose money but that's goes without saying... prices seem to be falling on the ///M

Lol one person said they are increasing in value, another said they are decreasing in value.

What i do know as i have been studying the market for a few weeks on Z4MC's is that any that are a reasonably price, get snapped up by dealers and are advertised a week later with a £3k premium.

So you have to be very quick to buy and have cash in hand ready to go.

That said i have noticed the £15-£16k+ examples are on the market for a lot longer. In fact the same 12-13 Z4MC's have been floating around for about 4 weeks now. This either tells me they are over priced, or are poor condition/spec.

Buying cars is all about timing though, just a waiting game for the right one to come along.

Z4M prics definitely aren't falling.

I started looking over two years ago, a 50k Z4MC would sell for ~£15k on average, now that same car would be £16k on average. They will start to become a bit cheaper at this time of year for 2 reasons though:

1- Less Demand
2- More supply.

Lots of owners will look to sell at this time of year (relatively speaking) and less people are looking. That said, it's not a huge swing by any means only a few hundred quid.

I don't think 4 weeks is a long time to be on the market, after all the number of M buyers are fewer and as said it's the wrong end of the year for selling. Really good examples will go quickly, but there are still nice cars out there.

I completely agree with what you say about these dealerships snapping up the good buys sharpish, I've been beaten by them to a couple of cars now!
Some of the 12-13 cars you refer to have actually been around 6 months or so.

I've been watching the market closely for around 9months and it seems very up and down to me.

Dealer good cars will sell quickly and lemons will generally hang around. Overpriced cars will sell when they are reduced and time of year will make a difference too..

Private cars will either sell or be removed from sale

With so few Ms in general its always going to be hit and miss with a lack of consistency. There's less to work with than say an analysis on a Ford Focus..

With the advent of the tinterweb making info so readily available people know what to look for in cars these days as well (or at least thing they do).

The buyer of the 'middle range sports car' is usually of the discerning variety so as Bluestreak said......good ones sell.....bad ones hang around.

x2

I think part of the issue of price variance is the relatedly high cost of maintenance. Two Z4MCs could appear similar, but be priced £1,500 apart. If one has a fresh service and new tyres then the more expensive one would probably be better value.

Mileage seems to be a big factor too with <30k cars commanding a significant premium...
