Buying a Z4 3.0si Sport (Coupe) hints / tips please

Hi

Both cars look good from the Ads to me - I particularly like the blue one

Just stick to the normal rules - FSH a must ( pref main dealer) and with these it's worth trying to get one with a lower mileage as this appears to affect future scalability and price in a big way - so of these two on balance the silver one would be a better shout

Don't buy the first car you see / drive drive at lease two or three so you know / feel the difference

There are no real biggy problems to look out for if you stick to the above but cars with non- run flat tyres will drive better ( most owners ditch the run flats )

Look out for excessive DMFW noise with clutch out / in but again if you stay lower on the miles unlikely to be a problem unless hashed

I don't think the wheels in both ads are 'dual spoke' they are 108's so treat the rest of the description with suspicion - it may just have been lifted from somewhere else

God luck - you won't regret buying one

test drove the silver one today, only issue with it was rear interia light wasnt fitted.

and gear box felt slight resistance to go into gears, is this normal.

As clio 172, audi tt seems to let you go in all gears very smoothy kinda pulls into gears for you once yer nearly in it, appart from first when moving etc :/

The gear boxes can be particularly notchy slightly when cold, however loosen up once warmed up.

ye it was as if it didnt want to go in gear, but i was driving it steady, used to changing at low rpm in clio and it just goes in smooth, went straight in gear though when pushing it abit.

Do they have USB for putting mp3s on, just ggogling and it says its just for charging and to use a grome kit? are they easy to fit

Car has sat nav fitted and bluetooth i think

Also do you think 10k is what the silver ones worth

thanks

Yes, especially compared to those cars you mention, which have notoriously slick changes. 1st to 2nd is especially stubborn sometimes. If you "backhand" the shift it might help a little.

whats do you mean back hand?

i thought all cars where like it lol, clio was know for getting a clunky box, but mines been spot on bu I rarely push it.

Specially once i test drove the TT today, i was going to see a local BMW 130 see if that was same

Both highlighted cars appear reasonable value & both appear well cared for examples
Neither could be classed as a " bargain" but not priced high either :?
Wheels on both look like a refurb not too far away( the ones on the blue car appear to have been blown over as bolts look to have paint on ? ) so be aware & use to negotiate as i doubt they will have the budget to have them done properly for you  )

I've had a look at the silver one although I didn't drive it. The drivers side front wing has had a repair on the arch - there's a colour difference in a patch about the size of your hand. On the passenger front wing, there's a slight bulge - if you run your hand inside the arch you can feel the change in profile. Made me wonder whether it has had some sort of low speed frontal impact? Also noticed that the piano black trim was pretty scuffed up on the centre console. All in all, I decided against it.

Back hand as in palm facing away from you. Helps you to put more force into it without hitting the gate between 2nd and 4th.

The Z4 box is notchy but has a positive feel to it, especially shifting above 2nd gear. Any significant resistance in higher gears isn't a very good sign.

Didn't know the Clio had that rep, but a quick check of the forums proves you're right! I've only heard good things about the 182 shift (I assume the 172 is the same), so that is surprising. Maybe people just like it because it's light.

Cheers AlanJ, was looking for something like that

yer it was mainly when setting off not used to putting any pressure.

yer clio gearbox is a bit of week link, starts to get clunk/nock in gears, 5ths always been known for been bit harder n not as smooth. Sometimes it just engine mounts that are going so gear linkage isnt aligned. Somes had a clip that goes, cheap part silly hours work to fix thou.

It's not a gearbox for the weak. All Z4 owners have gigantic, hairy man balls. Especially convertible drivers.

lol im just lazy ;) just not lazy enough to have a auto ;)

there are aspects of the convertible i like but its not somet i`d want for daily use, coupes perfect and a bit different :)
