Buying a new Z4

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, so hello everyone.

I've been test driving a new cars this weekend and last. I'm after a sport car to help deal with the mid life crisis. The z4 put a big smile on my face and was great car to drive. It was a 20i and didn't really compare performance wise to the audi tts I tested after which was a very nice car, very fast, but maybe not for me. I also preferred it to slk I tested the week before. BMW dealer is arranging a 28i for me to test next. Should I also test the 35is?

I was impressed by the z4 "toys" much better than the audi's... Anyone got any comment on speaker systems, stock vs business vs pro? I'm a bit of music nut so good sounds are important. Also what about trim options? The pure balance pack looks nice anyone seen it in the flesh? Does it go well with deep sea blue or Melbourne red? What other options are must have and don't have or not worth it at all?

Also what do I need to know about buying a new Z4 and bmw main dealers in general as I never owned a bmw before. In fact never had a new car before.....

Chris

P.s. I know some on here will say buy nearly new not new. I understand this and all the arguments that go with it, but its not necessarily about money that being said if the right car came up....

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

If you are buying new then its all down to personal choice and what you can afford - if you can afford a 35is then GO FOR IT! Use the BMW site build your own section to spec up and cost your choice - then its down to wheeling and dealing to get the best purchase price. As for sound quality go for the best to get the best although with roof down motoring spending a whole lot on audio equipment seems, to me, a bit of a waste :P

Useful to hear which main dealer you intend to use - check on the dealer feedback section and this may give you an update as to their 'quality'. New v Preowned again a matter of choice. Personally for me I always gone 'new'.

Keep us updated

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum. The E89 is a great car that feels quality(ther are some that have had issues though). Lots of members posting the 20i vs 28i conundrum at the moment so a browse of the E89 section should help you out.

Sean.

At the moment I'm talking to Cooper in Banstead. The sales guys are being really nice, but I'd expect that... Can't find anything about them on dealer section.....

Welcome

Autocar rate the Z4 as second only to the Boxster in their top 5 roadsters

Doubt you will regret it

and generally BMW Dealers are good ,a few bad ones but if you indicate where in UK
You will get plenty of help weeding out the good ones

Thanks.

I'm in South west London. Near Kingston. As above dealing with Cooper Banstead at the moment and no complaints so far. Next nearest is Cooper Thames Ditton...

Chris

The coopers in Thames Ditton has given me good service when I have been there. My best mate bought his 5 series from there a few months ago brand new and equally impressed...

I test drove a few engine sizes and went for the 35is. It's an animal
If money is no problem go for it. The DCT gearbox is...... I've paused because I can't think of how to put into words how good it is :)

Think I may need to test both the 28i and the 35is...... More test drives it is then

How is comfort between the two? Is the ride the same just more power or is there other stuff going on too?

I never noticed any difference in the comfort between any of them. Heated seats are a must and heated steering wheel is good in this weather too (it's not just a gimmick).
