Buying a car & general questions

I think that one looks nice dude. Not that I know anything much about Audi's. If you going for a 1.9 diesel, I do know that it's worth going for the 2.0 litre diesel - more modern engine. Friend told me that ages ago when I was considering an A3 before Burt.

I'm kind of back to looking at any diesel's. I haven't went & looked at that audi I linked but instead went to look at a Ford Mondeo & I have one question.

Is it too much to ask that a car over 8 years old not have anything wrong that raises warning flags in my head? (Note: I don't count cosmetics as something wrong - though this car looked clean)

I've decided not to buy this particular one, though if you want to read about my experience go right ahead....

First we start the car (with a bit of smoke but I've heard that's common with diesels that have sat for a while... after about a minute it went away) & drive off. Well I assume it was the seat belt chime kept chiming during the whole drive (It stopped when I restarted the car).

So I drive the car & every so often there was a er random-ish rubbing type sound while driving. The noise seemed to be more engine related rather than suspension. That said I noticed zero indications from anything (steering, suspension, RPM's, etc) that the noise was bad. I say it was engine related as it seemed to do it more often under acceleration but still only lasted maybe 5-10 sec's over both smooth & rough roads & at different speeds.

Then looked around the engine bay while the engine was running & looking all over the place (everything seemed good), decided to turn the car off and start it again. Well wouldn't you know it after that the airbag light slowly flashed. Another restart & it didn't clear the light.

Now for the funny part - someone (I don't know who) decided to put aftermarket tailpipes on the car (fake dual exhaust), & decided to put slotted/drilled rotors on the car. The drilled bit's in the rotors didn't look that nice but whether that was from old rotors or crappy machining I don't know.
Oh to top it off the salesmen (Indians I think) were super pushy & that always sends warning flags up in my head. That said the car rode really nice & aside from that noise (which if anyone can help me identify I would appreciate) the car ran really well. It's a strong candidate for purchase despite the odd electrical gremlins.

Did I mention that the salesmen were BEGGING me to sell my car to them. I think if they ask again I'll tell them 11,000 quid, you know because it's LHD :P
