Jenson retains McLaren seat if the BBC's informer is on the ball
Great news and a victory for common sense

Be interesting to see how he goes against Alonso

I remember the motoring experts saying he would be blown away by Hamilton
Great guy and very under estimated IMO

 Great news for him. Without this I think he'd be at the end of his F1 career...?

If it's true then that's brilliant - his career is by no means over, hopefully he'll have a better car next year

Good news. He's one of the best drivers on the grid. There's also talks of Loeb and Solberg making a comeback to the WRC in 2015!

Sky are now saying the same - official announcement at 10.30am
Button to take a pay cut (was on £12m) and Magnussen (was on £500k) to be retained as the third driver

Awesome news. He's definitely one of our smartest racers of all time, if not the outright fastest, and, as Eddie Jordan says every 3.5 minutes, "a great ambassador for the sport".

Would love to see him in WEC.

A top driver from my neck of the wood's on his day can beat anyone on the grid they should not have kept him waiting this long the point's don't lie  great that he's still there :driving:  :driving:  :D

Looking like a cracking line up at the sharp end of the 2015 grid:

Mercedes - Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg

Red Bull - Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat

Williams - Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas

Ferrari - Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen

McLaren - Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button

Force India - Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez

Toro Rosso - Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Jr

Lotus - Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean

Sauber - Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson

I hope Button drives his socks off next season, grinds Alonso into the dust and then gives Ron the bird for 2016... disgraceful treatment from McClaren. Ron might be a shrewd business man, but he's not shown much class in this episode...

Although these two posts were consecutive in the thread I do hope that the second was not a reply to the first.....

Maybe a case of poor choice of words, no disrespect intended but.....

I was delighted to read this,on the Beeb, at lunch time.

Ron was being shrewd, if Jensson had better offers, on the table, he'd have done the same thing, nice bloke or not, it's F1, not tidily winks. :o

It's not the first time any way, I recall Frank Williams shafted Jensson, after a successful season in 2000. Then Flavio Briatore, did a similar thing in 2002, preferring Fernando. May be Jensson is just a tiny bit too nice, behind the scenes. Fortunately he's a brilliance racing driver and I suspect, also has respect from people in Honda. It should be great to see him up against Fernando next year. :D

When the story broke this morning I was well pleased, JB's is an underrated driver who in my opinion is one of the best out there, he's a machine when it comes to keeping to a time.

The only thing to ruin the 2015 season now is if Sky stop the inclusion of Sky Sport F1 HD in the HD package.

Let's also hope that the Honda has lots of power and good reliability

You're absolutely right - and it's been interesting to listen to the differences of opinion between Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard through the season - it's clear that team owners sometimes view the drivers as highly paid monkeys and there's always another in the wings looking for a seat. All true and CEO's the world over have to look at the bottom line and keep the shareholders happy - but Ron hasn't endeared himself.

Given the right car, I actually think Jenson might turn in a decent season next year - competition from Alonso will keep him keen and hopefully he'll have got over the loss of his Dad, which must've taken the edge of his early season this year.
