It is nearly exclusively 20mph near me now. Don't get me wrong, I have kids and don't want people speeding in residential areas but it is hard to drive so slowly and the people that stuck to 30mph aren't the problem, it's the idiots that will push whatever they can when they can. A favourite around here is do 45-50 on little streets in s**t old Renault 5s, scoobys etc
I get so cross that I can't help tooting the horn whenever I pass one of plod's mobile extortion vans these days. The missus goes nuts and says I will get arrested. It wouldn't be so bad if they parked up on dangerous junctions or outside of schools etc. but near me the sly gets park up at the bottom of a steep bank on a 50mph section of dual carriageway with no footpaths or junctions and just before the limit changes to 70mph. If you don't keep your foot on the brake pedal gravity gives you 15mph+ on this bank.

If these speed awareness courses are so damned important, why isn't every driver compelled to attend one?
The idea that they're only of use to people who have been caught speeding is farcical.
There are some nutters out there who might never get caught, and then there are very careful drivers like me with one conviction (36 in a 30 at 3:00am) in 33 years of driving.
I've no doubt that they contain useful info, so maybe insurance companies should offer a discount to people who attend one voluntarily. Just a thought, as I'd do one if it saved me a few quid.

Can we not influence traffic law? If enough people complained wouldn't they change the system? With enough ill feeling wouldn't the law be changed - can this not happen?
There has to be a system that creates safety and common sense. I was caught speeding in a very similar situation as that detailed above - end of a dual carriageway return to single carriageway - only overtaking opportunity for cars following large heavies for miles and the van was just over the hill where the single carriageway continued every car was slowing down having passed the trucks and bingo! Wonder if they have a quota to complete in a day because they would be done by early morning at this place. Again, not a built up area, no pavement and no junctions, straight road????!!!!
I fear the days of driving enjoyment are numbered. . .better make the best of the time left!

The guy in our local pet shop told me a few years back about a bloke we'd just been chatting to who'd just left with his dog biscuits. Apparently he was bit of a joker and he'd been getting some money out of a cash machine at 11.30pm one night in a sleepy little local village and had his car parked on double yellows for a few minutes. Cop pulls up and proceeded to search him and go all over his car, he found nothing wrong so he issued a ticket for illegal parking. By all accounts the cop was a real jubswurth f*ckwit and quite abusive in his attitude. To get even our bloke who had clocked the reg plate on the Fiesta Panda had another one with the same number made up and fixed it to a mate's wife's borrowed white Fiesta. He then went through every speed camera he could find within a 10 mile radius at very illegal speeds.
I did a SAC in 2011 - never again, I'll take the points. I was nearly slashing my wrists by the time it finished! The girl who took the course was called Emmaline and she did a great sarcastic double act with her arsehole mate Eric. Oh! And, I've never been asked yet by an insurance co if I've ever attended a SAC.
