I’m not sure renting stuff out for free is a great business model tbh,

Having said that I believe there are number of Zed sheds dotted about who might be prepared to help you out…. I don’t mean the DLV one!

One of the biggest chain of of autostore here in Canada does just that, loan out over 60 different kinds of specialized automotive tools to DIYers.
The rumor is that so many guys were buying the tools, doing the job then bringing them back for a refund that they just started making them available.

That’s interesting, but surely you just limit your market for ever selling any of those specific tools you stock :?

Can’t be that difficult to determine if a tool has been opened and used, surely.

The stores policy is, if you are unhappy with your purchase you can bring it back for a full refund. It was costing them more to deal with the returns than the profit they were making on the tools. Besides they are not really an automotive store anymore, tools are small part of their sales as they mostly sell housewares, the chain is Canadian Tire.
