Burning Oil smell through interior vents.

So, every so often, i notice a burning oil smell inside the car.

usually 10 minutes after start up.

jacked the car up, but couldnt see any leaks.

Yesterday afternoon, started the car, 10 minutes later, i noticed a puff of smoke come through the dash vents......
was only one puff of smoke, car stank of burnt oil, and then thats it.

any suggestions what this could be? a bit worrying!

Its not likely something leaking in your vents etc... Its got to be a leak somewhere. Perhaps run the car without the vent fan running, open the bonnet and watch for any slight smoke. Oil must be dripping onto something hot on or around the engine, then the smokes being pulled into the cabin through the intake vents. Likely near the top of the engine if anywhere given its pulling it into the top vents rather than going under the car.

coolio. will try that!

kinda glad i bought the AA parts warranty. i'll probably end up getting it checked out by an Indy and charge it back to the AA :D

I had this issue (well the smell anyway, didn't ever see smoke) and it turned out to be a leaking seal dripping oil onto something hot as maniac says... Just needed the seal replaced, cost next to nothing so fingers crossed that'll be it...

How old's the car? Mine is an 06 & Indy reckons its not uncommon for rubber to start to become brittle & lose seal just due to aging...

Hopefully that's all you'll need!
