Burgled - spare keys taken

Just returned home to find my house turned up side down by some scumbag. Aside from the stuff they have taken, they have also taken the spare car keys to both our cars.

Needless to say I will be parking it at work overnight as the police said they may return for the cars.

Anyone any ideas on the costs of getting the locks changed?

On the plus side, I went to work in the car today, whereas it's normally left at home, at least I still have my car!

Last time I had to do it was on a Hyundai and that came to about £700 fortunately had Keycare so they paid for it all...

Which has just reminded me I need to get keycare set up well worth the £20 per year

BMW quoted me £70 last month to take a car in and get all existing remote devices wiped from the car's memory.

It might not stop them using the key in the door, but the alarm will sound as soon as the door opens and the engine will remain immobilised if they try the key in the ignition..

Worlds full of toe rags. Surely the insurance will pay for you to change the locks on your cars?

So to bar a key is around £50, which will stop the alarm fob working and will mean they cant drive the car, but they could still use the key to get in.
A new key is quoted at £188 (The old stolen key will still allow them access, but cant drive it)
New locks quoted at £888

So, lesson is store keys elsewhere, although mine were put away in a cupboard they were still found. And look at the key insurance policy on BOTH your household & car insurance. Currently having a little battle with the house insurers to get them to cover the keys, as I am not sure the car policy covers them and if they do, it would mean a separate claim and excess!!!

Scroats isn't the word I'd be using!

Whilst your home insurer may cover the key under personal belongs (if you have this cover), most won't cover the replacement of the locks as most home insurance policies exclude cover for motor vehicles and their accessories. If they do cover the key it is likely to be subject to the policy excess.

200-300 quid buys a safe from screwfix.... fire and water proof, put all your keys, passport, documents etc etc in... that's what we do now.... read about these terrible instances too many times on various forums... so when I took delivery of the RS I wasn't taking any chances.
