Bumpy Ride

I have a '53 plate 3.0i, and the ride in my z4 seems harsher than other z4s I have been in. I can pretty much feel every little thing in the road, and it doesn't feel quite right.

Of course I know the ride is hard compared to other cars, and I know what to expect, but the car has now covered close to 68,000 miles and I'm guessing a few parts could do with replacing.

The rear springs were changed around 40,000 miles - and I've checked and neither seem cracked - but I can't be 100% sure.

Can anyone give me a brief idea of what might need replacing/refreshing to try and calm the ride down a little ? (I already have replaced the runflats!)

What other Zeds have you been in?

The 3.0i has the lower ///M suspension as standard and generally has 18" rims. The combination of springs and tyres makes a big difference.

Some may also be on non RFT that are softer too.

I am comparing this to another z4 3.0i I have been in, and a Z4MR - both of which have less harsh rides.

I have 18" 108s, and non run flats.

Did the other 3.0i have 18" rims?

Note that Z4M's also have higher profile tyres.

What tyre pressures are oyu running?

You could go on forever changing bushes and shocks (some aftermarket springs are reported o be more compliant), but frankly don't think it will make a jot of difference in terms of harshness. Aside that you have what you have.

I changed my front bushes recently. which took away some of the harshness, but not masses.

how worn are your tyres?

my tyres have less than 3000 miles on them, I'm currently running 31 front, 33 on the back.

I'm tempted to try replacing the front bushes - what was the total cost ?

dealer changed my front control arm bushes for £282 total.

I didnt think I would feel the difference as they said it would be an Advisory if MOT, but noticed it straight away. Just handling in general now alot more secure :D
