Bumps & Dents. Grrrrr!!

My friend parked her new SLK across two spaces in a quite nice garden centre and returned to find it had been keyed. I've never done it since then :(

I had to get 2 removed on my car last yr... As long as its just a ding... It not the end of the world... Still could have spent that money on fuel :tumbleweed:

I've only had my Coupe two weeks ..last Tuesday I got around to applying my Supagard paint protect (£6 from ebay rather than £500 from BMW) and I know the car had no dings at all ..yesterday I washed it and low and behold in the two days I worked last week someone managed to give it a smack despite me parking as far away as possible in the public car park ..tiny ding but clearly caused by someone parking too close and opening their door

Won't be too expensive but getting a PDR guy who doesn't want to rob me is proving difficult ..I've never paid more than £45 in the past but today's telephone quotes have ranged from £65+vat to £90 as a starting point ..I've been giving this forum a read http://pdr-forum.co.uk ..interesting that they think its fine to charge a dealer £40 to do a full car and have to wait for their money but want to charge at least £60 a panel to prompt paying members of the public.

My blood boils and blood pressure goes through the roof just reading some of these posts.. Iv'e said it before and I will say it again if I catch anyone opening a car door onto mine I will rip off their heads and curl one out down their neck..Either that or just set fire to their head!!

Really really winds me that people have no respect for other peoples property and think you are a madman for standing up to them when it's "only a car"

Honestly. I dont think I would be responsible for my actions. I would just see red!!

I have only had my Z4 a month, no dents or marks when I got her....now I have 5 dints on the passenger door! I always park miles away from other cars in car parks, Tescos etc, but seem to attract everyone to park as close as they can to me!!

5 dings in a month means you're doing something wrong fella. I've owned my Zed for 3 years and, touch wood, haven't picked up a single ding. My golden rules:

*Never park inbetween two cars unless no other option. I'd personally turn around and go home!
*Use end spots only.
*Try and park in a space with a car already next to you so you can control the distance between your side and their fully open door.
*Never park next to anything with a babyseat in the back. That door will likely be flung open far and wide!
*Never park in a massive empty area of a carpark as this often seems to attract someone to park right next to you.
*Never be tempted to park over 2 spaces - it's selfish and eventually you'll attract a vandal.

I fully admit the above is a bit OCD but it's my pride and joy so well worth the effort. Mine's an 03 reg and in better condition than many of the facelifts I see at forum meets.

i'd go for an end spot that has a decent car in it, preferably with it's passenger door adjoining the empty space....

you've narrowed your odds as far as possible there.

as others have said, putting too much effort into avoiding damage will, paradoxically, attract damage. as there are a lot of tossers around who seem to think disrepecting others' hard work is fair game.

i must say, i can't understand why, instead of all these disabled spaces / mother and child spaces etc, some of the multi storeys don't give over a floor to wider bays with a bit of protection, i'd pay a bit more if i could walk round their shopping centre not worrying that some exasperated mother, pissed off she can't fit into a size 10 anymore, lets her little shits dint my wing to buggery in her ignorance.

the local cinema has bigger seats for fat people... :fuelfire:

These Dent removal people are magic - what did we do years ago ? Expensive paint jobs ( that most times didn't match ) or have to live with it - Down here we have a mobile man who was trained in America who is brilliant - Used him to do a couple of obvious dents in the drivers door and several other small dints dotted about I hadn't noticed until he pointed them out to me - charged me £80 cash for doing them all and its perfect - baffles me completely how he can do this without even dismantling anything - worth his weight in gold!!

I need to find a local guy in Kent... could be worth it on mine tbh

Such a pain! - all my sympathy!- been there myself!
Interestingly - where I used to live up north! "eee up by gum"- never had any of the problems I now have in Essex! Poeple down her just don't give a S**t.

just curious..does people find with these cars that stone chips seem to occur towards the rear bottoms of the doors and the location just behind this on the rear quarters which stick out?

I seem to be gathering quite a few chips etc here, all from road driving (not dings).

 I actually just spat my coffee out reading that last paragraph and closing statement!!! This is my exact feeling James and have said this for a while. I would pay twice as much to park in somewhere that has parking spaces twice as big. Went into Doncaster town centre yesterday (that was an eventful trip in itself) but spent nigh on 30 mins driving round to find an end space to them be worrying about it most of the time I was there.. Luckily the fiancée understands and shares (to a certain extent) my anal parking behaviour.

How this was for parking like a twat....in the gym I park in the end bay as there is an entrance to the left of me.... Get back and I see this:

Drivers door to drivers door too... Had to inspect my car for dents... Sadly it was dirty so I can't be for sure until it's cleaned.

I parked up miles from anyone, in Tesco Kingston car park. When I got back to my car, only there was another bleedin Z4 plotted up next to me :D Anyone on here? !!

I am the type to never really worry where I park. I do always try to park in between two cars. I also park leaving driver plenty of room but never enough for a passenger to get into the near side. Thats because the driver can drive out of a space to let people in. A none driver is more likely to ping the door onto another car. I also think its more likely for a car to scrap you getting into a space rather than leaving one. Especially when reversing into spaces.
If opening my door when parking. Basic rule is to hold your door on the edge. Stops accidently swinging and also fingers act as a dent protector to other cars.

Well mine's sorted now (along with a further minute one I caused when leaning on the wing to clean my bonnet - doh!)..luckily all for a good price too but will definitely be more careful where I park in future as these cars are clearly made from coke cans .

New car less than a month old picked up the first parking dent courtesy of some careless idiot. I compared the paint left on my car with the paint on the clapped out piece of junk next to me - check!

The satisfaction of leaving my boot mark in their offending door cannot be described. True story.
