Bulbs

Hi, Can someone please point me to the right set of chromed bulbs for the headlight indicators. I'm not sure of the right ones. Thank you!

CJ,
In the end I decided to silver the glass domes using mirror glass film. Scraps off EBay were sourced for a couple of £’s
(From your clear headlights write up)

where did you find this film. I could find anything on eBay?

EDIT: Something like this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Solar-Reflective-Silver-One-Way-Mirror-Window-Film_W0QQitemZ230447206946QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_3?hash=item35a7b95222

Perfect - that'll do the job.

As for the bulbs themselves, to cut a long story short, I gave in trying to find silvered bulbs or similar as they are an obsure 21w offset bayonett iirc

ok perfect i'm guessing you used the standard bulbs and wrapped the film around the outer amber glass...

The culprit – amber glass inserts

P.S. I've opened the headlights up and they're ready to be closed and sealed... just need to fix these "amber spots". might just order the AE too while i'm at it. :)

I hate the fried eggs on my lights - i wish i could get rid of them :x

I know... all BMW had to do was to chrome them. Such a simple thing makes a big difference, so I don't get why they didn't do it!!!!!

Only option is to open them up (if you do I have black inners for you if you want?).

How you benefit from my trial and error

Take the amber glass domes out of their spring holders and wrap them in silvered foil. (take car with powerful springs on thin glass) That totally hides any amber showing through the clear of the lens. To get the right amber flash I painted the bulbs amber in heat resistant glass paint. Supposed to be baked on in an oven but a few minutes of cycling the light did that a treat.

I think i'd be too scared to open up my lights!

Maybe if i can source some cheap(ish) ebay ones - then i'd def fit some CCFL rings too.

Shame BMW didnt bond these lights with their old thermo sealant stuff to be able to bake these open like their previous BMW's.

Which i'm so grateful for!!

Like this stuff... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEBEO-VITREA-PAINT-AMBER-45ml-GLASS-METAL-artist_W0QQitemZ260555613555QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Crafts_DrawingSupplies_EH?hash=item3caa532573

Looks like exactly the stuff I used.
Check it's one that bakes on as the bulbs will get really hot with 21w cycling inside a small glass dome

Hi there,

I am new to this z4 lark and forum malarky!

Basically I have bought a 2007 Si Sport Z4, but when I checked the reg with BMW it doesn't have Xenon light which I thought came as standard. I don't wish to change as this is too pricey, but can anyone recommend brighter bulb for me? The car didn't come with an owners manual either as it was lost, so need to buy a new one....would the manual list the best bulbs to buy as well?

Halfords are too crap and standard to help me when I asked!

Thanks,

Sarah
