Bulb Kit

I imagine the only bulbs you could get would be the Halo and the Indicator bulbs, Xenon bulbs would be a expensive and hard to fit without killing yourself on the side of the road (Big Voltage in Xenon Bulbs) and the tail lights are LED's

Halfords is quick and easy for a bulb kit.

You do know that spare bulbs are only recommended in Europe and not mandatory, don't you?

Really? My understanding is that its a legal requirement to fix a defective bulb immediately http://www.motoring-into-europe.co.uk/product-bulb-kit.html. I've always ensured when driving in Germany I have first aid kit, reflective vest, fire extinguisher, warning triangle, and spare bulb kit. I have been asked for the first aid kit at a scene of an accident also - and it has to be complete!

Yes, they are only recommended as is the first aid kit.

See here from the AA site http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/touring_tips/germany.pdf

Same in France for the bulbs, only recommended. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/touring_tips/france-monaco.pdf

You can check all countries here http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/overseas/countrybycountry.html

The law your link relates to is for having a defective bulb, not for not having a spare.

That law technically applies here too.

Coincidence that the site pointing out the bulb thing is trying to sell bulb kits.

well, that's my point exactly. If you get a defective bulb, and are pulled for it, you have to fix it immediately - you cannot move the vehicle if a bulb is defective. So whilst you don't have to carry one, you are gambling on not getting a blown bulb. Not a risk I would take (having lived and driven in Germany for a number of years), but OPs choice.

BTW, just an aside, but the AA site also sells bulb kits etc....

Check the expiration dates on the contents of your first aid kit. I think even the 2009's would still be in-date but it is best to check.

I thought the DIN 13 164 first aid kits were required in Germany. (time to do some searching)

US Spec European Delivery program BMWs always have them. BMW removes and disposes of the German kits at the port as they aren't approved for use in the US.

My understanding of German stvzo section 35 is that first aid kits are required. It could be this only applies to German registered cars or that the UK registered cars get an exception. EDIT: I read the AA pdf. I guess that is the case. Nevermind.

US spec cars on BMW's European Delivery program have German export number plates.

I can read some German but I had to use Google translate this time.

Section 1 is for buses. It says that buses with more than 22 passenger seats must have 2 kits.

Section 3 says all other road vehicles with a top sped over 6km/h, except for motorcycles, farm vehicles, single-axle Arbeitsmaschinen (tractors and diggers), and mobility scooters must have a DIN 13 164 first aid kit.
