So my angel eye bulb went out its pre facelift so yellowish angel eye bulb right h8 v12 35v. All good in the hood ordered a new pair from euro car parts osram h8 bulb 12v.

Did the swap put the new one in working just fine. Turned the car off turned it back on completely fine drove for like two seconds bulb light on and front bonnet open.

HUH ive just changed this, Had a look the one i changed is fine the opposite side isnt and my bonnet is latched whats going on. So oppened the bonnet again had a look at the other bulb and its gone yay me. So i closed the bonnet harder this time as a precautionary, turned the car off and on again and boom bulb light and nothing else, drove for like two seconds and front bonnet latch still active.

Any initial thoughts?

So i think ive figured the bonnet issue, The sensor and everything seems to be fine. What seems to be the issue is the catch mechanism on the left hand side seems to have corroded/ sping isn't moving the latch. So I've manually adjusted it and then closed the bonnet. No error code Yaaayyyee Yaaayyeee!!

Will start added photo's soon in case yall ever come across something similar. ( il try wd40 on it soon to see if i can revive it) if not il order a new catch and get it sorted.

As for the bulbs, ive ordered another h8 12v 35w bulb off euro car parts, will fit it on the opposite side, and if anything goes wrong.... il keep you all posted

Bulb issue fixed. Put in the same h8 bulb on the opposite side done all working a charm yay! Lets hope it stays that way.

Moving onto the latch see attached for two images the clean latch is the one working correctly snd the corroded latch is stuck and doesnt spring back. So whats happening now is when i close the hood the clean latch, latches to the point whereas the stuck latch moves but doesn't click in. So after a bit of tinkering to figure out how the mechanism works ive closed the lid and pressed the dogdey latch side in a little harder and it seems to have latched. Driven up and down the road a little no error code no nothing so everything seems to be corrected.

Have booked myself into bmwman after easter in the meantime anyone know the part number for this or can direct me in any sense. I do motorway miles 100 miles dailh so a little hesitant. Its secure but its just the fact that oh maybe the hood might come up i mean its secure on one side and the other aswell but its just playing on the back of my mind.

You may need to look at the cables where they join. Open the headlight cover under the wheel arch. In the Uk it is on the drivers side and you should see the black outer cable. Follow this until you see where it splits into two. It might just need adjusting in some way.

Probably worth looking at the centre safety catch too while you're at it!

Mine was covered in gunk a couple of weeks ago so I cleaned it up and lubed it before it got stuck!

Some years ago I took my E87 for a booked MOT test and they couldn't test it as the safety catch wouldn't release! :headbang: I managed to get it open enough to soak it with WD40 and after an hour or so soaking managed to get it open.

okay so just to update.

I managed to manually adjust the latch mechanism to the correct position and close the hood correctly with the switch being pressed, so there isnt an error.

My next actions for the weekend is to reopen, try and lubricate the latch and see if i can get the spring action to work. Its just general wear and tear and if that fails off to buy a new part.

I must confess its quite satisfying fixing issues and figuring how things work. Il keep yall posted but shes going to be okay soon
