Build quality issues with Z4MR

Hi all
As per other posts I’m just on the lookout for a
Z4M roadster.

I spoke a family friend who works for a BMW main dealer (& had done for years), who mentioned something about the build of the car was not really strong enough for the power of the s54 and that sometimes additional ‘bracing’ welded underneath is required to keep things in check.

I’ve not heard this before or do I really believe BMW would produce an M car like this.

Is there any truth in this at all from genuine owners.
Thanks
Adam

That is hogwash. The Z3 ///M roadster suffered from this and many have indeed been reinforced. Perhaps your friend has that car in mind. It is not a Z4MR issue. The chassis is plenty strong enough for the relatively mild talk, compared to the HP, of the S54. The coupe is much stronger again.

Hope you find a good one they are fantastic cars.:driving:

Nope, nothing like that on the Z4s.

The e46s had some issues, but it wasn't as widespread as some specialists would like you to believe, and was mainly for those who drove their cars 'robustly' and those addicted to track days.

BTW, my Z4MC has 163,000 miles on it, and has been used on plenty of hoons, track days and Nurburgring laps...without ANY sign of chassis failures.

Thanks for replies chaps, that’s great to hear.
Onwards with the search. :)

Both the z4 and the z3 were built in North Carolina at the bmw plant. I own both a z4m and a 1998 z3 2.8 Both cars are well put together and the Z3 has been flawless in terms of reliability for 27 years. Nothing more than normal maintenance but my cars are garaged and well looked after. I do think the Z4 interior can get a few rattles but that's a design issue with too many solid plastics used in my opinion. In short nothing fell off and nothing has failed. I think your information is incorrect. That factory faced an uphill battle to convince people that the build quality would equal a made in Germany or South Africa product and they did themselves proud.
