Build problem update

Sooooooooo sales guy rang today, he’d been on leave so no issues there, they’re offering me a new build slot for December delivery, which is as much of an admittance they cocked up as I’ll get I think. Howeverrrrrrrrrrrrr, they don’t yet know if it’ll be for the same price as a new slot is in a different sales quarter, the tech they use to find such things out is down until tomorrow. I’m going in on Thursday to thrash it out. Now, I said I’ll wait now until the new year for a slot, I don’t care when, 2020 is all but over and I’ll now have a 21 plate ta very much. Then came the anticipated pregnant pause, followed with they don’t know if that’s possible as yet until the tech is back on line, quickly followed by more spin bullshit of, well if it was me what could be better than sitting down to your turkey with a brand new shiny Z4 on the driveway..? What an xmas pressie to yourself..!! I said fill your boots fella, there’ll be a new M40i with Cognac interior in the showroom in a few weeks for sale so knock yourself out.... From my point of view it’s now a 21 plate car, for the same or less as before as I’ll be damned if I’m paying more for their chuff up, bloody cheek to suggest I should tbh, or they refund my deposit and I’ll wander off into the wild yonder, I’m not budging, it’s that or nothing. So we'll see what happens on Thursday. :D

......if Mr Johnson's "over ready deal" isn't agreeed and in place we may find that we are faced with a hike in prices for cars imported after the 31st December when 10% tariffs are charged on the imported cost price....

The way I see it is the (none signed or part signed) contract is for this year as the dealer will not have added the 10% import tax rise that will be introduced from 1st January 2021. So they are willing to spec the car as a new build with the correct interior you have picked and get it you for December but you now want a car that will be registered as a 2021 not a 2020 for the sake of a months difference from your original order ?
I can see how the dealers could be a little peeved as they would be getting you the car you finally requested all be it a month later :?

Being pedantic its two months later and I’m a little peeved at the delay Nige. A goodwill gesture would be to either waver the 10% or at least go half’s on it no...?

Surely the point is that this situation has arisen because the dealer didn’t follow correct procedures. If then, someone is to be disadvantaged it should be the dealer because of their mistake.

Have a word and see if they will chuck in a set of floor mats

You won't get a 21 reg plate until March but if you want first registration in Jan 2021 the car could always be delivered to the dealer in December (avoiding any potential 10% (if that's the figure) import tax) but they hold off registering the car until January...

...unless, of course, the import tax (if it actually happens), is charged at first registration rather than when the vehicle comes into the country...

What they’re hinting is the car price will increase too because of a different build quarter, so even if I want a car now and ignore a 21 plate car it’s going to cost me more.

It won’t cos I won’t pay it but you get the issue.

When do BMW usually revise their list prices? That's something you can probably easily research & check. If it ISNT January then you maybe OK unless a significant duty change coming out of Brexit prompts an unscheduled change.
However, in my experience dealers always pass on changes to list price and I won't be surprised if list prices head north sooner or later next year even if a Brexit deal is struck. Extra import admin & exchange rate uncertainty (which BMW UK will probably pay to hedge) are likely reasons/excuses. Pretty sure you'd get your deposit back if the list price went up....but is that much comfort if you're forced to start again elesewhere?

I think if it were me, I'd take it in December & enjoy it.
Maybe it's all this Covid crap but these days, I often just think life's too short.
Just my 2p.

I would be happy to receive the car I spec'd up in December as a reg seems to not mean as much these days as long as it didn't cost me any more money

On a decent car, reg means nothing indeed. I would play the safe game and get the car before Brexit as when duty arrives, it won't be the dealer picking it up (it always says on the order that taxes that are changing are out of scope).

In your case, when you sell the car, it will be in "months" anyway :poke:

Ok ok FFS....!! I’ll go for the December slot then....

Red interior though......Cognac my arse.....I ain’t over the hill just yet..... :oldman: :P
