Bugger Bus Lanes

Just had a PCN drop through the door for £60. Apparently drove through a temporary bus lane in Newcastle a couple of weeks ago and although there was a lot of signage surrounding the roadworks at the site I cannot recall seeing a bus lane sign. :x

Luckily remembered the Pepipoo forum I was directed to a couple of years ago by Carol (Private carparking company which I fought and won) which deals with motoring indiscretions and on one of the forums it would appear that I am not the only one. Unfortunately for Newcastle Council they have sent me a video showing me leaving a well signed bus lane. That is well signed for traffic entering from the North end. As I was travelling from the South end I am told the PCN is invalid and unless they can show me passing the signage at that time from the end I entered then no offence. :D

I have sent in the appeal notice and all should be well even though I do expect a bit of a fight but thanks to Pepipoo (And Carol) I have all the legal stuff and template letters I need. If any member has motoring issues of the legal kind Pepipoo is a must

Entirely right you are - signs have to be clear and displayed and for you to have actually passed it

Good luck with it.. I hope you win.

Personally I hate bus lanes. I think its a cheek to take tarmac of the Road Fund Licence payer and give it to a privately run company to make more profits for its fat directors. If its for Public Service purposes, why dont they run buses to remote places late at night ? ( Becuase its not profitable !!) The buses seems to chose if they want to use the bus lane, or the 'normal' road if its quieter. If your a bus, get in the bloody bus lane !

The road tax goes up and the amount of useable tarmac goes down !

I'll stop there, before I write an essay ! :headbang:

Road fund licence is not until 2017. Until then you pay Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) so it's up to the local authority what they do with the roads and the money they are given from central government. But we will glide over all that.

I'm not a huge bus lane fan. I think there are more camera enforced ones south of the border. We do have a few in Edinburgh but very few and far between.

I do hope that you get the outcome you hope for Nanu. Makes a change someone getting a ticket for a bus lane camera rather than a speed camera on here.

and why can taxis use bus lanes

And cyclists which then force buses and taxis to just pull out into the right hand lane.

While we are at it, you give way to traffic from your right, buses and taxis just carry on when the bus lane ends and you can struggle to get into the left hand lane. Or the buses and taxis decide they want to continue right up the left hand bus lane and try and pull into the right hand lane only yards from a junction where they want to turn right but have made no attempt to get over in good time. They just assume you will give way to them if it's safe to do so or not.

Think I need to revive the boils you p!$$ thread

You live close enough to Oldham to know that Taxis can do what they want; when they want; how they want; whenever they want!

There's a bus lane in Reading on the Basingstoke road, it has a camera and a few guys at work have been nabbed because their back wheel has just run over the end of the bus lane :headbang:
And what clever c%nt decides it's a good idea to put bus stops next to traffic islands  :headbang:

Or directly opposite each other, so two buses completely stop the traffic in both directions :headbang:

I'm going to be a Bus Driver...............................Seriously, been offered a job with FirstBus UK. :fuelfire:

I challenged the mighty Glasgow City Council on a Bus Lane infringement fine, told them on no account was I going to pay it and if they had a problem with that then we would have to let a judge decide....they backed off after many threats increasing the penalty over the course of a year. They had me photographed and thought they had me banged to rights, I told them to GTF because they had closed off all exits to the city due to a parade and there was no way out unless I used the bus lane.

I hate being around buses as a cyclist, they are rather intimidating so I'm sorry if I assert myself while riding and take more of the lane I'm using. I just refuse to be meek and unseen! If that delays you by 10 seconds in your journey then I hope you can cope.

My worst experience was some years ago when I managed to get boxed in by four buses, one the left which pulled out while I was overtaking it, one on the right which was overtaking me (and the bus on the left) one behind waiting to follow the others and one up front returning back to the left after overtaking... and me stick in the middle with naff all place to go in a rapidly decreasing space :( to say I needed a change of underwear after that would be an understatement :o

So please spare a thought for the more vulnerable road users out there

Gannet as long as you are an abiding cyclists then I have all the time in the world. I actually find myself annoyed driving around Edinburgh watching car drivers venture into the designated marked cycle lanes on the road or try to get in front of a cyclist before a traffic island. I even cannot stand drivers who drive into and stop in the cyclist box at traffic lights. As far as I am concerned the driver of car or motorbike has gone through a red light.

I don't understand why cyclists cannot be given their own designation lanes and that way everyone would get on a lot better in life.

Wouldn't be my idea of fun jostling for space with a bus. It's bad enough in a car and their I'm bigger than you attitude. I'd hate to be on a bike!

Now you tell me!

I went to Edinburgh in the Zed the other week and two things struck me. The state of the roads and the empty bus lanes. I presume because the bus lanes were only in force between 0800-1000 and 1500-1800 or similar. It's hard enough driving somewhere new, a big city has all its problems for drivers, but throw in variable bus lanes with cameras, it is no wonder they were empty. Car drivers are too afraid to use them because of the threat of a ticket due to bad signage. I would rather sit in a queue than get a ticket.
