BT tell me my Landline will be switched to Digital Voice

I've received a few communications from them about this and it seems I'll have to plug my "landline" phone into my BT Hub (router) once the service goes digital.

But they tell me that if there is a power outage or my Broadband is down the phone won't work, which makes me think I might as well get rid of it and just have Broadband (and my mobile) and hopefully save a few quid a month.

Or have I missed something?

Maybe someone has already had this happen and can share their experience.

It is happening in 2025, I will just add a digital number that is forwarded to my mobile instead. Cheaper than a phone line rental.

Only thing you have missed is that you will need a new landline phone (if you keep the line) to work with digital voice. Only benefit of a land line really now is if you don't get mobile signal at home, but this is mitigated if you have WiFi calling available so you can use WiFi as a mobile signal

We keep hearing this from friends with Virgin Media, and some have had their landline disconnected and had to connect their main phone to the VOIP port on their router.

I've had warnings from VM myself, but 3 years later I'm still on analogue.

Of course we'll need a 3g/4g/5g backup (with built-in battery) for the monitored alarm system and there are supposed to be provisions for vulnerable people who may need it for emergencies (but I think it's only a battery back-up for the digital service, not analogue).

Not used a landline for donkeys.

Even work uses internet calling. Used to be Cisco Jabber, which was garbage, but now use Teams.
Also on mobile mostly Whatsap calls etc. Have BT / EE Hybrid here, so pretty much sorted. 8)

Why does everything have to be changed all the time, surely if there's a Internet outage you can't ring anyone, especially if there's an emergency
